Crawl

You crawl under my skin
Again, uninvited this time
Drinking my sorrow
Your tail whips around my heart

Drawn in by the cold
Darkness you know so well
To look but not to touch
A sad spectacle to visit

But visit is all
Soak up vulnerability
Bathe in the grief
Wash off, walk home

Leave me with the well
Where undrinkable water lives
Crumbs to decorate it
Furtive missives of absolution

Dig and scrape to pry you
Draw you out from under skin
Let you down so slowly
To silently await your return

a glass of water

A glass of water

He got up late and thought of coffee,
he had to drink it in black
Forgot to buy milk yesterday because it was raining
which is good news, hotels in the Algarve, tourists can shower every
Water, water everywhere, most of it in undrinkable
he spent years at sea on ships of ennui and boredom
except when his ship birthed and a life of adventures
that lasted all too short.
with a glass of water in his hand, looks out of
of the bedroom window, and there, a bite further along
is the glittering sea, as he knows how vengeful and irate
the ocean can be he senses no nostalgia.
85 years old, the past, is in shadow land remembered
when needed the know is a glass of water in hand
the future, although short, holds no fear of an ending
Heaven is a vast open space.
Still, deep in himself, he senses a loss,
there will not be
another him, childless, he has walked through life
with a glass of drinking water in his hand, he thinks this
not of great importance, but the thought lingers

The Last Voyage

A ship’s last voyage

The tank ship that looked like a schooner finally
made it from the black sea to Reykjavik in Iceland
The ship dry as the dust of the Sahara surrounded
by undrinkable water, the crew was eager to go
ashore and find a watering- hole selling beer.
Back then, Reykjavik was a dark town with few
streetlights and in the throes of temperance
There was no booze or wine, only watery beer that
was awful but in our situation better than nil.
The first café we came to was full of individuals
reading books in silence; we didn’t know Iceland
is a literate place everyone reads or write
books when not talking about literature but for
us it was a boring café we wanted fun and light.
We found a café selling beer, and the crew got
hold a bottle of homemade booze; in a country
where alcohol intake is restricted, people make
their own wine or liquor.
The voyage had been long and arduous; the ship
and her captain had survived the war and hoped
their voyage would last forever; it didn’t last
Of all ironies, the ship returned to Odessa and sold
as scrap iron.

Ashes and Thirst

Evil comes in all shapes, and all sizes.
We have all heard this many times... before.
But how truly large, or small can it be?
I want to ask this question you see.
I want to know the answer,
and I want to know why.

The water in the tap is no longer clean.
There are only 49 days left.
Las Vegas, New Mexico... is on the clock.
The whole city, will die.

Why?

Ashes from trees and flowers,
ashes from cars and trucks,
houses and furniture,
personal items
... and dust.
No rust!

It floats up in the air,
without a care,
coming down here and there...
as it pleases.
The ash, making the land
dark, and unusable
with poisons yet
un found, going by unnoticed.
They are the bounty of tomorrow,
containing all the sorrow,
from one bad instance to the next.

Then, the floods come from all directions.
They are part of the whole.
The water... now blending with the sewage,
and sludge, again... undrinkable by man or beast.

This story will repeat itself,
until the cycle is broken,
or the Lord returns.

How is your water supply?

STATUS OF SALT

Our staple food demands salt: Compulsory!
                          Unavoidable!
                      To digest or to taste
                         making palatable.

                  Dessert or beverage
                   liked by average
                    sweet dish to relish
                       But of course:
                   Cannot be a substitute
                     of salt-based main course.

In Bengali proverb status of salt is well-said.
“Debt of SALT can never be repaid.”

                                       AND
                                     VANITY
                                of Ocean and Sea
                            exhibiting aqua opulence,
                          storage of salt in abundance.
                                 Strong SALINITY
                                     in water’:
                                  Unthinkable!
                                   Undrinkable!

A Conceited Restaurant

A conceited restaurant

After the health clinic visit in Cascais
We had lunch at a restaurant nearby
Where the outdoor market is
It was overpriced and pretentious
The food, so and so.
Had a glass of wine it was undrinkable
Had a cold bottle of water instead.
There are many proper small restaurants
In Cascais, they appear not to be
Near the centre.
A few days ago, near the post office, we had
Splendid meal and it was reasonably priced
With not too many tables and people I have
fear of crowds this inane nattering about
Nothing, just meaningless noise.

Awkwardness

Is the scarceness of peace
Is like craving for sea water although its undrinkable
Is the scarceness of resources
Is like craving for something that is not yours

Is the scarceness of morals
Is like baking bread without the sugar
Is the scarceness of accountability
Is like eating meat with the bones

Is the scarceness of true love
Is like drinking orange juice with the peels
Is the scarceness of happiness
Is like stealing a shoe that is not your size

Uncomfortable Comfort

Uncomfortable Comfort

Unstable state
deficiency of rest
strange agony
unknown pounce
puzzling exhaustion
uninteresting-
stressful fatigue
flowing sweat
rolling tears
salty liquid
undrinkable
but
pressing thirst
body's weak
sickness strikes
illness arrives
death smells
grave knocks
uncomfortable comfort.

Observer

A serpent underneath blue sky,
in shade of man, in twinkle of an eye,
above brick wall, in the structure, at the floor,
venom of white dove; contaminated food, undrinkable water,
misguided youth, pregnant daughter, unfaithful father and hateful son,
mothers do pray while we walk through Babylon;
on teli and in the press, on top shells,
price none the less, in bedroom and at your door..
dawn of a new day seemed to be dark,
after all.

Drenched, But Drying

DRENCHED, BUT DRYING

Waiting for the clouds to roll away
On this bright and sunny day
I didn’t make the rain myself
You helped

The drums are thundering again
Yet only I feel the repercussions
So sick of being the only one wet
But there’s only so soaked a person can get

I spoke the unthinkable
I drank the undrinkable
I sank into black
I broke my own back

Out of the flood, a phoenix will rise
Setting fire to cloudy skies
And vultures circling this spot
Leave the carrion to rot
Carry on with what I’ve got

Premium MemberBefore It Is Too Late

Wars, famine and pestilences.
Death comes with a pension.

Poor people in this country.
Poverty all over, feeling empty.

Diseases spreading all over the globe.
Some mutated, some foretold.

Global warming sends a warning.
No one listens, it keeps on moaning.

Clean water becoming undrinkable.
Poisoning into the unthinkable.

Beauty that the world once held.
Destroyed by only a single shell.

Threats of war, they will come due.
A price to pay, because we are cruel.

Extinction presages as our future.
If we don’t all heed the bigger picture.

Terrorism is the world's axis of evil.
World in court, everyone is blameful.

We must be meaningful and do our part.
It's never to late to have a change of heart.
