A chef gave Dad a gift he’ll never use,
a cookbook full of gourmet recipes.
Some call for twenty-plus ingredients.
Dad knows, for these, prep time won’t be a breeze.
If Dad’s to dine on chicken cordon bleu,
Moroccan lamb, or lobster thermidor,
his friend, the chef, will have to cook for him.
Those fancy recipes, Dad will ignore.
Unless somebody else bakes Dad desserts,
Italian cream cake won’t be on his plate.
Those Little Debbie’s cakes are fine, he says.
Six-layer tortes, Dad never will create.

If I give friends what I’d choose for myself,
those gifts may occupy a dusty shelf.
I’ll find out what you like before I shop,
to guarantee my choice won’t be a flop!

They don’t call this summer month “July” anymore.
There is a new name for it. They call it “Thermidor”.
How many changes are we going to see?
People are shouting “Death to King Louis”!
Paris inhabitants don’t show the least bit of regret.
They also want to see the killing of Marie Antoinette.
She was told the peasants did not have enough bread.
What a terrible thoughtless thing she said!
This is going to cost Marie her head.
Outraged citizens want the queen dead.
Responsibility was something she would not take
when she said to her court “Let them eat cake”
The guillotine is assembled in the public square.
To witness the event, there are people everywhere.

The force of the nature takes over.
What can we the people do better,
Than just obey and Surrender?
God’s power is just as the space.
It is but a celestial act of grace
That travels beyond the airspace.
God’s promises are unlimited
They can never be erased,
Nor can they be replaced.
My brother, Wismith Thermidor
Is hastening to get into the store
He’s just one step away from the door.
Now, it’s up to you to save your family,
To retain “today” from being a page in History
Otherwise, they’ll be stuck in your memory!
