Best day of summer vacation is going on an all day picnic at a local park or the nearby woods.
You wake up really early, in the morning, to gather all of your picnic gear.
You will need blankets (for sitting on the grass), some outdoor games (like Frisbee and Tetherball) and of course you need to pack enough food for lunch & some midday snacks.
Once everything is packed up and put into the car, then it is time to hit the road.
Everyone is super excited about the picnic, because it is a day just for fun & sun.
When you go on a picnic, you can spend the entire day just having fun with family and friends.
You get to play games, swim in the local pool or lake (if you are in the woods), go on a nature hike or just take time to sit back, read a book and enjoy the nature surrounding you.
The best part about going on a picnic is the freedom you feel from everyday life.
Freedom of taking off your shoes, walking barefoot and just enjoying all the good things that life has to offer.

Dad was in the Air Force so we moved quite frequently
Living lots of places there were many things to see
The island of Bermuda was my favorite place by far
Twenty-two square miles, didn't take you long by car
Living near a perfume factory, smelling passion flowers
Bicycling and sailing,we whiled away the hours
Watching deep-sea expeditions right beyond our yard
Keeping us kids entertained sure wasn't very hard!
Playing tetherball with kids of every kind of race
Taught me of diversity, put a smile upon my face
Those are such great memories, things I won't forget
Living in Bermuda was the best adventure yet!

Working seven days a week
Has really worn me down
Teaching children all day long
Then teaching more at home
I see them playing during recess
Yes, I long to be set free too
Merely a moment to gather my thoughts
Swinging by myself would nicely do
Or sliding down the stainless steel slide
One time or maybe even two
Just enough time to gather my wits
Making the distinction on what to be true
Tetherball is also a possibility
But hard to play without being rough
Basketball is calling my name more so
One person playing is surely enough
Perhaps I’ll sit on the bench for a while
Pondering my thoughts and my wits
I guess I don’t have to be in motion
Time to play can be a quiet time to sit

Stomping tiny feet across the large school yard
Football and tetherball games, never seem hard
Swings and slides occupied entirely at full capacity
Enormous vibrant energy, some quiet some witty
Always in need of a pass; for this and for that
He took my purple book bag, she took my cool hat
Faces full of shining light, yet some full of suffering
Trying to simply “fit in”, trying to be something
All different shapes and sizes with huge attitudes to show
Watching our future observantly as I watch our future grow
Some mischievously defiant, some a perfect behavior displayed
Waiting for the very last bell to ring while standing at parade
Counting down the time until I let my whistle blow
Racing running rapidly, the moment’s soon they know
Watching my every move, their eyes fixed upon to me
Waiting for an action on a playground festive spree
Our children are our future and I can see it in their eyes
With every passing child I meet, I know the answer why
I never really realized it until the moment I started to teach
The world is at their fingertips, as far as they can reach
