THE TERRARIUM
For my tantalizing terrarium
brought pilea, peperomia and palm,
selecting from emporium.
Precious plants are growing faster
inside my bottle of water.
Shining in sheen and lustre.
Exuberant bottle greenery.
Me caring being miminy-piminy.
In a violent contumacious act
the rankled child smashed the terrarium;
the green shards of glass making an abstract
scheme on the tiles of the solarium.
Amid the sphagnum and the fertile dirt
sixteen years of tender growth lay dying
a single swipe with full intent to hurt;
the child listened to the mother crying.
An empty bottle of glass walls
soil beneath the carpet of moss
incubating within the effulgent cave
a floor of sand, droplets all across
sprouting little roots thin and white
gentle leaves embrace, the weeds wild
Don't open the bottle, it's filled with love...
Our tiny world, the trapped genie smiled.

We Live in a terrarium..
With our lives we scurry around like little ants.
We run to the store.
We run to the Dentist.
We run to pick up the children.
We run to our jobs.
Every day pretty much like the rest.
Some hold out their chest as if they’re
important.
Others think they rule the world, but it’s just a tiny terrarium.
A forest behind a glass
earth and green shades
blended to be artfully pleasing
Moss, lichens, and a twig
composed with a splash of color
Autumn wind treetops dance their ballet
as bright colored contrast release summers shade
pinwheeled pirouettes kaleidoscopic scene
picturesque subtleties within natures terrarium...
