Terrarium

In a violent contumacious act
the rankled child smashed the terrarium;
the green shards of glass making an abstract
scheme on the tiles of the solarium.
Amid the sphagnum and the fertile dirt
sixteen years of tender growth lay dying
a single swipe with full intent to hurt;
the child listened to the mother crying.

16 years of nurturing a tiny garden, with pride, can be somewhat heartbreaking and to just cry instead of yelling at him, is commendable. Her tears hopefully will teach the child a memorable lesson. I love this Terry. It takes talent to tell a whole story in a few words and you have done it admirably.
