Yesterday, I made a connection
with someone I knew casually
We discovered we are both poets
and just like that, as simple as
when an electronic device syncs,
our spirits synched and we connected
in a way that is extremely special,
that only someone who writes from
their heart can understand.

Premium MemberAlways Welcome

This bright and sunny morning
I watched a bluebird fly
She landed on my table
I thought that I would die
She looked just like my Bluebird
I'm telling you, no lie
I wondered, should I question
From whence she came, or why?

I asked if it was really her
As tears welled in my eyes
Tears of joy, although they were,
I didn't want to cry
She smiled first, then winked at me
She beak-synched out a "hi"
Then chirped a word in Spanish
Which caused my tears to dry

She told me not to worry
I told her I would try
Then three more words in English but
Before I could reply
She spread her pretty feathers
And flew into the sky
She said, "I have to go for now,
But this is not goodbye."

Horn Harmony

Written By: D. Collins 6/14/24

There's nothing better than a trumpet, trombone, and sax.
Screaming out tight tones on full blast.
Synched and tuned to make our hair stand up.
Cracking all glass products around the club.

Then, a sweet-talking flute comes in underneath.
Followed by a little Lee Oscar, the harmonic beast.
Damn!!! That would sound good. Music to my ears.
The soul-stirring sound that'll bring a man to tears..........

Premium MemberSimba and the Smart Door

We want our two cats to be kept inside.
so we bought a dog door that was smart!
It synched up with her collar to provide
the way for only THE dog to depart!

One night I searched my house and could not find
our ginger cat named Simba. Where was he?
I took a flashlight, and it blew my mind
to see our cats’ eye glowing from a tree.

That Simba figured out a way to get
behind our Aussie dog when she goes out.
I guess he lies in wait, and then it’s “ready, set,
and go” when our dog leaves! Yes, I’ve got no doubt.

Good thing that cat’s been fixed and still has claws.
Or he’d be hunting female cats in heat,
or ending up in some big mean dog’s jaws!
Thankfully by dawn, he’s at the door to eat!

Blindfold

He laid a gentle kiss on her face as he synched his tie tightly over her eyes
He had special plans for her tonight
She didn’t recognize the voice that said “you’re all mine now”
Then the room began to fill with him like slow pouring sweet tea
His desire surrounded her
His touch covered her body
His lust was legion
He was they
And they were there to devour her

Brain Fart

a blank mind sets in &
though it may only be for a
flash of a second,
the words you are really trying
to muster,
dangle like a doughnut on the end of
a stick in front of a policeman
waiting next to the turnstile of your
subway stop,
waiting to give you a ticket for
littering
(fill that quota at the bookends of
the month then run to get that jelly)---
you reach out in your head,
trying to grab it,
as if you had dropped your pencil
and were floating to grasp it again
while waiting for takeoff in a zero-
gravity
space shuttle, set for commercial
flights---
your lips start to move to make the
sounds but the linkages aren’t
synched up just right & you
babble out some sub-freudian slip
that in its best translation can’t
even be construed as your native
language,
so in frustrated despair you
slap your brain across the face
inside your skull while trying to
teeter-totter on that conversation
tight rope &
making the best of your pounding,
paradiddling,
parapraxis,
you spit out some nonsensical
factoid that basically gets ignored
anyway.

Dance Through Dark Days

We danced like this
A fit of madness, twirling around
round as the beat drowned

drowned out sounds of outside melodies
unwanted tunes, I danced with you
black dress of luxurious lace swept low
Encasing legs perfectly porcelain
Fanciful footwork-I led you-you led me
 In this symbiotic synchronicity

The light cast down illuminate
a striking angle of your face
smiling, a twirl, hands in mine
around the floor, intertwined
hands in mine

A room looked on...no notice, no matter
Removed from their critique
 judgement, opinion.......all words of others
They mingled into sounds of nothing
noise lost in our self-made song
Eyes locked to speak all unsaid
I kissed your pouted lips instead
our steps never un synched.......

We waltzed on as the night made dawn
The floor beneath was then sand
The ceiling now sky...now you and I
The makers of noise, a memory to forget
Just an inner existence of two

Each day we dance this way
Making song and venue all the same
Taking turns at leading step
For which of us hears the music
Will lead the other in a dance through it.....

Sense

visual
scanned living sunrise dissolve
to deadpan fall of dusk

audio
whispers broadcast sweet
to escalating screams

olfactory
perfume scents of rose
to blast of graveyard musk

taste
lip-synched cherry kiss
to sucking blood of dreams

tactile
vibrant love and hate
forged in gossamer fire

conceived immaculate
