A lone
yellow swallowtail
loops in and away
to be seen no more~
the memory lingers
as a brief mention
of the flitting beauty
of everything
not seen~~

Meandering my garden one day I was shocked,
to see caterpillars crawling all over my parsley plants,
and as though that was not enough they found my dill too,
and they were not just crawling ... they were chomping away.
Quickly, six caterpillars were eating my parsley,
and were working on my dill plants right beside it,
as I was trying to look up on the internet what to do,
anyways, what happened next was like a mass murder spree.
Now, I do not believe or tolerate violence,
but nature can be cruel and have no conscious,
because mother bird saw those six fat caterpillars,
'cause they were not hiding and she picked one up to fly away.
Coming back over and over and over, and over,
'til not a single caterpillar remained on parsley or dill,
I was somewhat sad, somewhat relieved, sort of shocked,
problem solved, parsley and dill have revived and doing well.
Anyways, although I know they turn into pretty butterflies,
they were creepy green striped worms crawling on my green leaves.
The end.

i came to the Amazon to find myself
red swallowtail butterfly came to my aid
she gave me beauty, joy, and mirth
it was more than enough
it was everything

The mustard seed
a wild mustard seed took flight
carried aloft in gathering light
over thistle'd sage and poppies
in countless colorful copies
as brash rain showers subside
the retreat of angry clouds abide
scolded by the Northern wind
in search of infinity's final end
once barren hills, now painted gold
snow geese forage with fledgling fold
amid the flutter of swallowtail's wings
from soil sprouted seedling life brings
'til once more mustard's children are blown
from heaven's heights the earth is sown
~~~Dedicated to my Uncle Joe~~~
giant swallowtail
We had these caterpillars on our little citrus tree until heavy rains washed them away. :( We were hoping for flying flowers!
They float rather than fly with their kite-tailed long wings,
watch them descending on tulips, blueberries and lilacs:
these butterflies are yellow-green striped and love pawpaw trees;
imagine Nature without their fluttering sounds and stunning colors!
The zebra swallowtail butterflies work too hard as they constantly move,
sipping the sweet nectar found on flowers and trees, but not on clove!
Oh, they are as delicate as petals...ever wondered where they came from?
Their life span is brief and before winter arrives, they'll be gone and won't roam.
Plant more shrubs and fragrant flowers and your garden will be
visited by them on cool and warm afternoons so scented and dandy,
and they will leave as the shadowy evening brings on many lady-bugs
to replace those lovely zebra swallowtails with their constant glows.
Yesterday around noon, a zebra swallowtail butterfly fell into my open hand,
I tried to console with my human touch...she was badly hurt;
her wings were broken and she could hardly crawl or look...
perhaps she wanted me to keep her and remember her after she was dead.
Butterfly floating
Southern Blue Swallowtail Lays
Love on Meadow Rue
Soon caterpillars
Stinking like skunk munch and munch
Meadow Rue for lunch
The air is filled
Miniture blue sailing off
To mate for their day
