this sorrow keep'in
me up and so dark
the night so dark
i ate this old heart
& taste the bitterness
mud on these feet
cool ma'h soul
yes indeed it do.
Woken up when the light
split the night and
now on my feets doing
the man's burden all
of this ol'day in
white man's fields.
so life makes me hug
yes'sir like fresh cooked
bread and steaming beans
this life so hard but
i'm drown'in in so much
love.

Love's Like Sugar Cane
Tender tendrils
of the same vine,
we entwine
with hearts a fluttering,
beating ecstatically as one,
floating on wings
of iridescent butterflies,
satisfyingly satiated by
love juices squeezed from an
orange, bright summer day.
Cherry blossom kisses
from pink juicy lips,
sprouting silky petals
that pucker and quiver,
anticipating warm, tropical,
sugar cane, sweet licks.
Blissfully drunk with love,
we sip and dip
into the golden syrupy
ocean of us.

Sweet sugar cane,
So sweet and juicy
Well, it just makes
Your mouth,
So watery, inside
Harvest bounty from
The Savannah fields
Sweet sap running
Down their long
Slender green spines

innocent eyes look up to mine,
chubby little arms wrap around my neck and you whisper goodnight,
a kiss on the cheek,
the grace of your sweet breath,
the innocence in your voice,
your heart beating next to mine.....
and it is then the nightmares of yesterday escape me and I remember why I want to live...
It is you , I wake up for, It is you I die for, It is you I pretend there are no monsters for...
you are the alphabet in my soup on the rainy days... and the rainbow colors on the grayest
page....
You are my love, Darling.... I love you my son.... Austin.... 9-14-08

Growing from a sugar vein
in fields as far as the eye can see
are sticky stalks of pithy cane
bending the breeze a symphony
Born upon machete mouths
Held in sun soaked hands
Exhale moisture from the clouds
to inhale sugar from the sand.
