Notice my stunning new avatar
Can't believe how young and dashing I was
At one time I was even a younger than that
Mom actually had to change my diaper
I know, I know, I'm so sophisticated now
It's beyond people's comprehension
That I was once a snotty nosed little know it all
Full of my own importance
We live and learn as the old saying goes
We're only one of seven billion inhabitants
My teen years were years of insecurities
So from these shy bashful beginnings
Emerged a handsome dude fighting off the girlies
Oops sorry! Lost it there!
Still dreaming of those days long ago
What we make of our lives is of our own doing
We can even rise to be famous
And be remembered by generations to come
It's all up to us
We are the masters of our own destiny

The hallowed evening is deafeningly here
Goblins and witches' loud shrieks are near,
Shelled corn raining down our outer wall
Our whimpering dog is cringing in the hall,
Some snotty-nosed kid bangs on the door
A plastic pumpkin for candy wants even more,
The tiny young princess calls out trick or treat
A four-year-old drummer boy never misses a beat,
That big-footed clown lives up our lane
The kid with the rattle is driving me insane,
An older woman whom I cannot figure out
Is collecting for UNICEF, somehow, I doubt,
One more creature from the black lagoon
Or a big, black hairy animal like a baboon,
I will take in my candy and drop out of sight
Turn off the porch lamp and call it a night.

Chicken Poop

everything came from the back door
a peace offering sandwich
something to be lost on the clothes line
and when the door slamed close
chickens scramed with their necks crained back
in their traditional drinking mode
the sound of the back door latch
was forever in thier collective memories
handed down in their genes
the door shut as they drank their last
their soft fluffy feathers turned to down
thoughts left on trianged ground
like the hard edges of earth was the cure
mixed with ash from cooking fires
their poop was like sin and cancer combined
scraped from the feet of snotty nosed boys
corpes stacked like the forgiveness of all
on weathered picnic tables feathered
as if a calibration for nutrition
was calculated in pounds of chicken heads
feathers, bodies and poop

Thats Not My Elephant

Thats not my Elephant! it just followed me home.
I tried to shake it off, but shes like a dog with a bone.

So i made her feel welcome with balloons and confetti,
filled my pool for a bath and fed her spaghetti.

I even gave her a name and christened her Ella,
we became the best of friends and lived happily together.

Until one day a man from the council came round,
"your neighbours are complaining of an Elephant type sound."

"You can search high and low, theres no Elephant in my house."
He began in the basement, but all he found was a mouse.

He then prowled through the bedrooms,
even the cupboard under the stairs.
"Do you know how big Elephants are, you won`t find one there."

Then he walked through the garden, he`d never seen such a sight.
"Theres an Elephant in your shed, ill have to read you the bill of rights."

Then they took Ella away and she was dumped in the zoo,
where snotty nosed 2nd graders call her names and shout Boo!
That was my Elephant, but not anymore.
I still visit sometimes and we laugh like before.
