You can’t force a poem, although you can try;
it seems that’s a maxim, but I don’t know why.
You smash it and bash it and beat to a pulp,
like using sledgehammers when trying to sculpt.
Sometimes it’s the topic, at others, the form -
just rains in your brain like some strange neural storm.
The trochees are croaking and Anna’s a pest;
the dactyl’s intractile, the iambs cause stress.
And Poet’s Collective just makes matters worse
'cuz Rannaigheacht bheag sounds more like a curse.
So it’s back to your childhood, the muse of your youth;
the Seussian salve is quite soothing, forsooth!
----------
"Rannaigheacht bheag" is pronounced “ran-a-yah voig”
Good old fashioned wisdom is dead
its been devoured by mental reflex
lack of impulse control and hate
tongues are no longer instruments
of intellect and understanding
but are being used as sledgehammers
of ignorance -crushing differences of opinion
no more handshakes or healthy debates
only busted knuckles and AK47s-
Only a holy man can pull us from
the sphincter of ourselves
but I see none that fit the bill
only charlatans..
those with satin throats
and granite hearts
bathing in collection plates
suckling the teat of mayhem
Holy man if you do exist
the time is now to
come forward
do something miraculous
leave no doubt in our minds
of your existence
come to us in a
global vision
or effigy in a cup of tea.
let us have a glimpse of
the timelessness of hope and heaven..
Holy man please come forward
strike down these many devils
spare the good people
they are desperate and weep loneliness
No trails and traces
Of witching hours,
No tandem rides of battles
And encounters either.
No more tumultuous furors,
And cadence into tempestuous errors.
No sounds of sledgehammers
And Kalashnikovs,
No manipulations, bloodshed
And carcasses and gunshots.
No more beheading infants,
But juvenile and puerile breaths
Are nourished with iridescent.
No genocide and annihilation,
No holocaust and conflagration.
Cessation of innocent blood,
And termination of cadaver flood.
Slavery, bondage and servitude ends,
When the air gets pregnant
With fragrance of love
And these images of peace again.
