giving to takers
is a Sisyphean task

Each day I climb the fleshy
stalks of your love to perch
outside your castle in the sky.
I watch the currents ebb and flow
as clouds are carried away
downstream. I lay patiently in the
sun's warm arms for a glimpse
through your turret window.
As the sun readjusts her body
the glare from your window
is telling me to try again later.
Night comes on fast, slinking
it’s way through the sky,
prying me from the sun’s embrace
and the sweet earth rushes up
to catch me. It leaves me breathless
as a glimpse through your turret window
and I scrape the earth’s blood from my knees
to prepare for my ascent tomorrow.

Sisyphean
By Michelle Morris
13/03/2022
Sisyphean seems the task
To gather consensus from mankind
Scattered around the earth
Peace flailing ever blindly
Mere mortals are we
But destruction is a talent
We seem to gleefully achieve
At any given moment
Why can't we focus rather
On our brilliant creativity
Solve challenges together
Create a utopian reality
Around the globe we find
Individuality and unity
People striving to be better
Make heaven on earth a surety
But there always seems to be
Darkness lurking somewhere
Trying to lay waste to good
Infecting the minds of the oligarchy
Sisyphean it doesn't need to be
Rather possible is peace for us
Only if we stand together
And in a higher power we trust

Idle thoughts are the chaff of the mind – with wind soon scatter,
Rein in the chatter.
Need for a hearty laugh had often made me cry,
A lifelong boondoggle try.
Tilt the water pitcher and let the river flow
Lest tears from my eyes slow.
Gather all the dark clouds in the sky,
Storm over the desert most dry.
Only the promise of an unyielding tomorrow
Lessens today’s sorrow.
I walk on my head,
I falter, I stumble and fall instead.
It’s our heart we’re bound to follow
Good sense sounds hollow.
The soul aspires for the realm yonder,
The mind but wonders.
Seize the spirit of ethereal grace of twilight,
A soul’s lonesome flight.
The old man with the scythe catches up to us all,
Until we fall.

Eternity is a long time to learn.
Yet Sisyphus was able to adjust
To his punishment. He refused to yearn
For bright tomorrows and knew that he must
Dispel any and all such thoughts of hope.
His salvation was not the morrows but
The moment at hand. Not the highest slope
The boulder could attain, in vain it must
Descend again. But the span of descent
Was his freedom: this brief trek down the hill
Was his only joy before his next ascent
Once more and endless treks as yet fulfilled.
Man through his suffering does find solace
Often long waited and found anyplace.
