Squirrel roadkill
       flattened by unheeding wheels
       No! He escaped!!

A note to readers: The squirrel escaped and wasn't flattened into roadkill. My apologies for my lack of clarity....

3 Spring Haiku
Pill bugs wet with dew
as crawling gray domes mirror
green turf, salmon sun.

Copter seeds whirling,
a squirrel chases paper
treasure for her nest.

Young cat mock-tweeting,
wily sparrows unheeding,
paws press on the screen....

Unrequited Love
Sightless you gaze past the love in my eyes,
I am sending your way in friendship’s disguise.
Unheeding you neglect the words I treasure,
That reveal the feelings I've yet to measure.

Detach from my dreams, migrate from my mind,
And save me from the pain of going in blind.
Restless I ache from this love unrequited.
Dealing with desires which show up uninvited....

Unmired
Don’t count on luck when you are stuck;
It’s fickle and unheeding.
A little pluck may help unmuck
Your journey to succeeding.

Don’t pass the buck or try to duck
When problems have you sinking.
Let others cluck or run amok
While you, instead, start thinking.

You may be struck by train or truck
Before you get unmired,
But brains and pluck, when things just suck,
May get what you’ve desired.

(inspired by the movie “Joy”)...

When one of inspiration is shorn
And every poetic thought stillborn
When every glimmer of light disappears
And every proud conceit ends in tears

Should I to my unheeding Muses turn
And offer holocausts for them to spurn?
Would Melpomene listen,Thalia heed
And grant help in my hour of need?

Why do they cast me so cruelly aside
In my own grim Hades to abide?
Prayers do I offer for this barren time
Wherein the empty page is branded crime....

Inspiration
From the deep recesses of mind emerges a stimulation that necessitates a defined sudden, high-level invention. Once imagined its stay is brief and must be dealt with before lost to distraction. I would as lief act on its potential than toss it on an unheeding scrapheap. Each notion is temporary and must be exploited to reap whatever essence there might be notwithstanding it goes to seed or an idea that succeeds.

when florida got shy
when my river ran into your waterfall
startled egrets and alarmed herons
reached for the sky

the claws of surprised osprey let go
of wriggling fish

for a long moment
florida became a frozen lake

you could see the stunned faces
of stopped clocks
trapped beneath the ice

when we plunged
into each other unheeding
of time and place

plastic flamingos
and pink barbie dolls
flew away
in the wide open eyes
of passing snowbirds

Garden Games
sleek cat watching

              crouched
low-sprung
            statue still

only a tail tip twitching

the birds are unheeding
feeding

two still green lakes
               blink once

cat leaps
sparrows scamper up
        a flurry of hurry

cat claws land
       miss
cat licks a paw
               hides

a quick flare
of pique

cat slinking
stiff tail high
a furry finger
mocking

the fluster
the dither and flap

cat nap...

Pesky squirrels have come out to frolic
Their elders keeping a wary eye on
Feral cats perching on the redwood fence
To pounce upon the unsuspecting young
With sharp talons extended razor sharp
While their elders chatter warning signals
The younger ones prance through the fresh-mown grass
Ignoring the ever-present danger
They could dash up the huge sycamore tree
Into the safety of their birthing nest
The unheeding will miss the summer sun.

Ancestors
there are those
who lived by the sides
of my ever-green forests
whose naked feet
trudged along my endless
bush-paths -
there are those
whose voices
still mutter in tremulous sounds
to unheeding sons
& daughters
within some grave-yards
of new happiness
there are those
whose faces saw the twigs
of today in old mud-morrow
tho still going a-sorrow -
these are the clan's sages
who sit unseen
among us
like our casualties -
these are the ancestors
who sit unseen
like us
in a world of the casualties...
