Imminent Danger

Pesky squirrels have come out to frolic Their elders keeping a wary eye on Feral cats perching on the redwood fence To pounce upon the unsuspecting young With sharp talons extended razor sharp While their elders chatter warning signals The younger ones prance through the fresh-mown grass Ignoring the ever-present danger They could dash up the huge sycamore tree Into the safety of their birthing nest The unheeding will miss the summer sun. I loved this poem well written, well-described cats as predators is a subject I too explored in my poem "three fewer".

We have loads of feral cats in our neighborhood. I can look out at any time and see them scouring the yards and edges of the fields for prey. I love cats. They are wonderful creatures, but they do love the hunt!

Thanks so much, Lasaad. I had intended it to rhyme, but just got tired of reworking it.

They are, indeed, Sunshine Smile. But, keep in mind they are rodents, and they can cause a lot of damage to a roof and attic! I do love watching them frolic, however.
