Winter

BRANCHES WITHOUT LEAVES,
MESSAGE GIVES.
COLD BEHAVIOUR OF NATURE,
IS FOR A SMALL TIME.
AFTER THAT,
ALL WILL BE SHINE.
LIFE WILL BE IN FLOW,
ALL TREES WILL SMILE,
IN EVERY WIND BLOW.

Twenty-Two

Twenty-two twenty-two caliber guns,
With twenty-two ammo,
Pointed at me....
By twenty-two small time hoods
Each having done twenty-two years apiece...
I'm hoping twenty-two times,
Twenty-two twenty-two's
Ran out of sufficient gun grease!

‘Tis true, time waits for no man, but moves swiftly along
Age to eon, in big laps or small, time is never retrievable
Once gone it can never be recaptured, even in song
Moving inexorably forward into realms unbelievable.

Some Old, Short Ditties
(doggerel)

I.
Our sojourn on Earth
is of diminutive worth.
Our small time is spent
(and no more are we lent!)
long before we're ready.

II.
Drunkening wine of heady
illusion obliterates thought
and causes confusion.

III.
Fleeting is life!
Fruitless existence!
'Ere any purpose
is completed
life is done --
and we're defeated!

Disinformation

Double-sided mirror
Deceptive reflections
Void of truth and beauty
Faith a small-time felon
Captured in a tight snare
Beyond pleasure and pains

Purchased books not read
Portraits not painted
Houses without roofs
A nonfunction heart
Stagnated living

Showing cold love
Unresponsive
To blank feelings
Reprimanded

Double-faced

Aunts

the aunts come for coffee
in their daytime dresses
always sharp with lipstick
they take long drags on their cigarettes and wave their hands
in the smoke
while they talk
in small whispers so we can't hear
and then louder
about whose baby is due
what cousins getting married
more coffee
in nice weather they'll sit outside
big Jackie O glasses
small time 60's ladies
heading into the revolution

My Arms Opened Wide

Times change along with faces and names Somethings stay the same Living with shame Searching for fame Don't want to live in vein Or go insane Its only me to blame The man I became My soul set aflame Unable to tame This isn't a game So take aim With a small time frame For it maybe near the time our LORD came To reclaim the ones who proclaimed I don't want to be one of the unclaimed

Premium Member An Afternoon Twice Transformed

One bright afternoon, The sky began grumbling as darkness fell swiftly. While rain pounded my windshield, my heart matched it beat for beat. After a small time - darkness fled as my heart lost its pitter patter, and the brightening sky changed to the blue of robins’ eggs. Above the mountains, a lovely bow stretched across the sky in the east, and my heart beat as softly as its soothing pastel hues. (see "about this poem") For Debbie Guzzi's "Transformation Contest"

Just Me

Small time girl,
Just me,
With big time dreams to just be happy..

In a city so full of people I feel so alone
In a city so full of streets I've nowhere to go, nowhere to turn,
I've learned that everything comes at a cost
But with so many roads here how can I be lost?

I just need you..
These are my innermost thoughts that I'm writing down,
Echos of cries and pain I've found,
I don't want to be sat here feeling these things,
But sometimes the world has a way of clipping your wings.
