Clerihew Heaney

Ulster poet Seamus Heaney
ever a favourite with me
In which nostalgic childhood shines through
to become a Nobel winner too

Stay At Home

Said Seamus to his wife, with a wink
Since I cannae go out for a drink
I'm sure me and you
Can find something to do
Let me hug you, while both of us think

A Dry Stone Wall Near Coleraine

(for Seamus Heaney)

as if the pale stones
share the warmth
between two sides
sea and field cut
early light and full morning
the path weathered and slow

Farting Farmer

There once was a farmer called Seamus,
who had an incompetant anus.
When out on a date with girlfriend Kate,
he blamed his dog when he farted,
to prevent her being startled.

Saint Patrick's Parade

Off, Seamus marched with a swagger,
Yet, soon, he slowed, that sly lagger.
Then, not very far,
He snuck to a bar:
By noon, his march was a stagger.

Anna

...inspired by M by Seamus Heaney

Her cranium, its bumps and hollows
cradles secrets stored beneath,
neurons firing, never tiring
of their journeys to belief.

Thin vibrations mold, embolden,
prophecies, cunabula
suffuse the soul, engage the spirit
of the tortured Akhmatova.

Anna

...inspired by 'M' by Seamus Heaney

The cranium, its bumps and hollows
cradle secrets stored beneath,
neurons firing, never tiring
of their journeys to belief.

Thin vibrations mold, embolden
prophecies, cunabula,
imagine then the soul and spirit
of the wondrous Akhmatova!

To My Brother, a True Teacher

Ah who will follow Seamus
And walk where he has been
From 28 Mellows Avenue
To football on the green.

I could not take the road he
chose
From Finglas to East Wall
A dedicated life to those
Not ready to heed the call

To step outside the comfort
zone
what they believe is
preordained
To light the lamp in fertile
minds
So long entrapped in traditional
chains

In Honor of Seamus Heaney

In recognition of the Nobel Poet Laureat Seamus Heaney,
who a few minutes before he left this world last Friday
echoed the Words of the King before He rose from this earth;
NOLI TIMERE....... DO NOT BE AFRAID.
Thank you for that much needed reminder of Christ's own words,
Seamus Heaney. May God have mercy on your poetic soul and your loved ones.
There is no hope in the world. There is only hope in Christ.
Be Not Afraid.

Ringing True

A moon smiling shines one golden glow
Holds my attention from far below

Ring around a rose her pearly white face
Brings to mind a love one's embrace

Inside dreaming Heaven's opens door
keys the lips kissing explore

Faraway treasure star falling wishes grace
Exploding emotions increases the heart's pace

Winking goodnight sweet angel holds
Forever and always until the bells toll
