Mara and Sarah Or Sarah and Mara
Oh Mara
Goddess of evil
And illusion
Come sit
With me again
Your face
Although it changes,
Is always recognizable
You know that
I can not be fooled
I’ll take what you give me
And spin it into Gold...

Still Recognizable
loudly applauded everyone at the sound of our names
high-pitch my talk for a silly sounding seriousness
performing so clutched down on heavy plunging drops

late aged (bad), still recognizable ol' friend...

The Mirror
its wood frame is flaking

the face reflected in the glass
is time-lagged
recognizable only
when molded
to a memory

tomorrow
i will strip the frame down
varnish it
polish the mirror
then sell it on

as a good riddance...

Hulking African-American character-actor, Bill Duke.
Hollywood's most recognizable "Who's that dude?"

The ultimate king of cool, quiet menace on screen.
In real life, however, he's anything but mean.

Strangely Familiar
Damn, that face looks oddly familiar though a bit
Enigmatic too, somehow I cannot seem to nail it

Just where I met her, maybe in school or in some
Arty hangout, or perhaps way back during a prom.

Vaguely recognizable yet, mysteriously intriguing,
Unless she is an outgrowth of my wild imagining....

Nothing Something Everything Anything
When I look into some people’s eyes,
I see NOTHING.
Yet in other people’s eyes,
I see SOMETHING…
Distant, yet recognizable,
And I want to get closer.

But when I look into your eyes,
I see EVERYTHING,
And when our eyes meet,
Our souls collide,
And ANYTHING is possible.

In your eyes,
I am healed....

North Carolina Approaches
North Carolina approaches
And I retreat
To my recognizable refuge
Marked by the stains of memories on the floor
And the broken shelves
Destroyed under the pressure of moving pictures
A closet I can finally walk into
And maybe, just maybe, get lost in
Never to be found
Never to be moved
Yes, I’ll stay
Because I’m not prepared to part...

Premium Member My Mirror Looking Back
Listen to poem:
the years have added
to my patina in ways
that were not pre-approved

they crept up
one saggy whimper
one tiny wrinkle at a time

sly and sneaky
perfidious and insidious
emphatically inclined

till one day barely recognizable
the years took their toll
adding much to my patina

Artist of Facade
I've been known to fabricate entire planets,
crafting layers of reality like a masquerade ball.
Perhaps the greatest secret I hold of all,
is that there's no clear distinction to the eye,
between my art and my life,
only a thine blurred linen
where pandemonium of existence bites,
congeals into something recognizable.
But don't quote me on that;
I change my mind with the changing tides....

The Light-Stepped Girl
The light-stepped girl
standing before the mirror
slowly comes to realize

that the child is a woman is a child.
It is winter
and the light is low

and almost warm through the window.
This person is between herself,
recognizable, almost,

as if she were in line
with her past and her future.
For now she is a child-woman,

a little scared, a little proud,
a little cold....

My, the frightfully threatening roll of the foreign tongue inexplicable, rapid fire shrapnel to the unaccustomed ear proceeding, ever forward in an unintelligible tirade. Ears ache for understanding Eyes strain for common ground no single sigil or symbol recognizable. My Lord, to be so alone, so lost so must we journey, infants all, landing without fan fair on distant shores, seeking only love and acceptance.

What Strangers Know
"what strangers know"

somewhere between peace and despair
a stranger gently hears and sees
somehow restoring mind body soul

elsewhere between harmony and misery
a recognizable someone looks away
ultimately diminishing light and grace

abandon the darkness
embrace the clear
walk with music

someway between phantoms and shadows
shadows are never distant or behind
making freedom of what strangers know

Soundless Epiphanies
11/10/12

--------------------------------------------------------------------

A sound of silence veers its head Staring blankly into obscure delight A recognizable face appears in the light Inward laughter—fed Never heard it this loud before Something shifts on volume low The majority has become the foe Even words—they ignore No one needs to understand For all is heard within All they need is that grin All else—reprimand

Premium Member My Lucille Ball Purse
My twin sister Carolyn is wildly creative.
She has made me a Lucille Ball purse.
It is fabulous; I love it!

There is a cartoon montage of Lucy all over it.
Many recognizable faces on various episodes of I Love Lucy.
I carried it around to several stores today.

Strangers begged to know where I got it.
I could have set up shop and sold these.
It’s a computer bag, not a purse my sister told me when I called her.
I smiled at the predictability of my twin....

Premium Member Behold the Marvelous Wildflowers!
Behold the marvelous wildflowers!
How they boldly carpet a sloping glen –
Our gift from Earth’s seasonal showers.

Hardly is the desert recognizable
Come March to an untrained eye when
Spring has announced herself in full

Except for occasional saguaros –
The perennial observers to this annual display –
Perched on the precarious ledge they chose.

Penstemon and globe mallow are in glee;
Even the palo verdes celebrate
By showering the ground with yellow confetti....

Safe House
He arrived on dusty shores
Way too early, it would seem
Skinny and gaunt, left to die
Not recognizable as a human being

The first time she opened her mouth
Something shrill began to sing
No one wanted to listen to her vibrations
So the hole was stuffed with many things

They lived together as one
No family connection to bind them together
Back and forth, out and in, they'd come again
Life birds of a feather

...safe in the ARK

Premium Member A Reason For Words
there is no-thing...
it is vacuum
and foundation
of reality...
we
are the perpetual
want
that holds it together
in some recognizable fashion
that is communicable...
with reserves depleted
and endlessly challenged
we stumble on blindly
perceiving and questioning
a braille reality...
but with symbols and words
we make use of our turds
and through recycling
build this...
something is missing
from winning
for losing
as to how to brake
this...
recycle of poetry
