Midnight Mirage
under the weight of you
      I pull in my wings
      and rest . . .

until the rolling intensity
     of tumbling necessity –

unable to restrain
     spreading wings readying
for
flight...

Vindicta
Buried in the shadows,
hiding at night
Valor pierced and left to bleed,
hemorrhaging with fright
Fangs exposed and deadly,
searing from within
Readying to pounce and strike
—vengeance to begin

(The New Room: March, 2021)...

The Potting Shed
At the top of the garden
A sanctuary hidden
The old hen house is converted to
A potting shed
Stone floor, a window, a door
Your secret bolt hole
Nurturing beloved seedlings
Readying them for planting
While you order those thoughts that beset you -...

Down the Trail
Early morning visitor
Adding treats and treasures
Sweet surprises in store
Tempting young ones
Eating candy before cereal
Readying for the day ahead

Baskets overflowing
Unable to hold any more
No more eggs will fit
Nineteen is the limit
Young voices giggle...

Seasons By: Tom Wright 9-10-2019 Spring is the preferred time, for daydreams to appear. When Summer comes along, these dreams often sear. But Fall is readying itself, to exhibit sudden change. A precursor to Winter, the blahs, and a Christmas gift exchange.

The Hunter's Party (Naga-Uta Lyric Form)
Nearing river’s edge;
My thoughts began to wander,
	As brooding clouds formed --
       In a once indigo sky,
           There the hunter stood…
Yes, the archer and his hounds
	Readying his bow
He implored twins Gemini
“Chase the bull ‘cross Milky Way“…

Premium Member should we leave the state
there is always a quandary when there is an active volcano
how far will the lava spew?
should we leave our home?
how would we prevent looters?
Should we leave the state?
What would we take?
Will the roads already be filled with unmoving cars?
Readying your family for a disaster is always tricky....

Memorial Weekend Barbecue
The clouds roll in, the sky gets dark,
The trees sway to and fro
And thunder rumbles, getting set
For Nature's rainstorm show.

Of course the timing coincides
With readying the grill
But if I have to barbecue
While rain pours down, I will.

The burgers and the dogs deserve
A charcoal bed below
So I'll attempt with all my might
To see that it is so....

Dream Management
I dream of reliving my heart’s past fall.
To marry again and bear the long haul.

I long to long.
To sing that song.

One day I will lock in the courage.
One day photos will find the fridge.

For now I must simply yield to stall.
Readying my boat before the waterfall.

I dry-run this until my skin peels off.
I pray I will be ready for takeoff.

My Learning Disorder
I learn from outside the box,
Nothing like a paradox.
The color I invite,
Is more black and white.
My readying may not be the best,
At least, I can digest.
My life, I'd like to simplify,
As long as I don't have to testify.
MY social life could be better,
At least I 'm not in the gutter.
I know this should be somewhat formal,
But that's what I am, abnormal....

My Early Departure
The house, it is quiet this cold winter morning
The heat, set real low, to about sixty eight
The dog, she whimpers, needing to go out
And I, readying for work, cannot show up late

The kids, looking cozy and warm in their beds
The wife, in warm repose this cold early morn
The house, seems to be alive within its quiet
As I, off to work, leave from the bosom of home...

Unasked
Right on top, you were inching slowly.
United in hate
they were tracking you.

Trespassing the epochs
you want to go back in stone age
to retrace the steps
of a homeless sapience.

In the brown desert of high hunches
you were treading haltingly
hounded by rivals,
utterly unethical.

You drew a circle
without a center,
readying for a guillotine.

Autumn's Final Bow
On leaf strewn woodland floors,

Autumn's raiments lie.

Adorning where they quietly fell,

From grey autumnal skies.

A pale sun, now weak and low

As autumn winds gust and blow,

Frenetic bursts of swirling leaves,

Dance amongst the naked trees.

Silent are the woods,

Readying for winter now.

To sleep, through the long cold days

As autumn takes her final bow....

Be
BE

Wake up on bright summer morns
When birds chirp and gentle breeze sings
See the sun readying it's gun
Hoping to shoot bare skins
Till they bleed heavy beads of sweat.

Be.
Live at ease like blossoming flowers
But shield your nectars from that fiery ball's reach
Make lemonade with life's lemons every hour
Yet surf difficult waves as expert sea birds do.

Premium Member October Hides
An Autumn rain teases the roses
Splashes within cupped petals
Challenges the lone bumble bee
To pollinate the late bloomers

Chipmunks grapple with wet acorns
Leaf armadas ride the rapids
A lone goose questions its choice
Children know what the puddle’s for

October hides behind next Sunday
Readying its cornstalk mazes
Spicing up its pumpkin-ness
Adding its scents to Fall’s colors...

Premium Member Caramel Fields
Through the corridors of bare trees,
I can see caramel colored fields
Shimmering in the sun
I stand on green grass, left-over from summer
Before, I walk on the crunching puddles
Already frozen with ice
I am in the middle of the seasons
That are saying goodbye and hello
Readying for a long winter walk
Through many passages of time
            With so far to go

Winter's Crown
Once verdant land, now dormant

Scouring winds disrobing trees.

Patterns on the woodland floor,

In tapestries of fallen leaves.

Squirrels readying for sleep

Gathering nuts, tending dreys

Little creatures line their nests

Anticipating winter days.

As autumn finally takes her leave

And winter dons the crown

The woods shall fall silent,

When snow lies on the ground....

Premium Member I sit and sit and sit and sit and sit
I sit and sit and sit and sit and sit and sit and sit and sit
When I get bored with sitting, I take a long happy nap
Readying myself for the next ten years
I feel twenty years older than I felt three weeks ago
When I got sick, the illness kept me exhausted for twelve days
Now I do not know if I am tired or depressed
Is it old age or angst over being retired?
I have never been this old before...

Lifes Shadow
A shadow hidden within a shadow
Readying to make another widow
Cloak as black as deepest space
Within the cowl there is no face
Tall and thin he stalks the earth
Following each from our birth
He has our card marked true and clear
Of this being so many live in fear
For you he will come some day
There is no chance to get away
We all eventually face our fate
And follow death through life’s last gate...

Sike
Readying the cannon for war
Barricading the mind for battle
Protecting thy neck from the noose
Flexing my arms to brace for impact

Walking through trial’s gate
Veering in the distance my eyes drop
Chattering teeth seize and sleep
No one is here to challenge my soul

A sigh of relief and cold calm
For today the battle is postponed
However another day it shall be
A trial for the ages, I shall get my rest

Cram, Cram, Cram
The stores are busy, readying the shelves,
Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, what a mess.
Too much stuff, crammed into three months,
all at once, put out in front.
Buy, buy, buy, now wait a minute folks,
Santa is now wearing a Vampire cloak.
I see ghost dressed like elves, and turkeys
pulling the sleigh, I'm confused here, about
the Holiday.
One at a time, is all we can stand,
not, all at once, cram, cram, cram....
