Long, winding gravel driveway
  decrepit old Mercury station wagon
    parked there
    doors unlocked
    those big red buttons
    sticking up
     no seatbelts either
Tiger lilies blooming
  all-at-once, on  
  either side
  of the gravel
A few years later
  a cockeyed backboard
  appeared on a tree
    supporting an
    uneven, rickety
    basketball rim

I hold on to the ground as it violently shakes with a wave of aftershocks...
The earth has shifted and rearranged my life; turning it upside down...
I run through those sticky pictures in my mind... A baby. A wedding gown...
The walls shake and fall apart leaving only the stains...
Everything has suddenly changed, yet the pain still remains......

lady reliving childhood

She has dandelion hair
and when the wind blows
I already have my wish

All the clouds were crying
as stars fell from her dress
her roots grew bird houses for hollow skeletons,
shells to hold shells to hold promises made.

Her skin was polaroid 
tanned stained sepia toned
broken boned and dancing.

Empty quiver hunting trips
tangled in her own antlers
spider webs connecting dots 
of her scattered constellations....

The first door I believed in boasted of the things it had, and I didn't.

The second one only wanted to show me how much time I had spent in a Polaroid.

Another door was nice to me but the nuts were badly screwed.

The bravest move was taking a chance on each door.

That any one of them could have been it.

And every door was knocked.

The next door might welcome me with the brightest smile.

But I just might have been the only one there to knock....

When the final school bell rings,
And "summer" is being chanted.
When the water gets warmer,
And the sun shines brighter,
Skin darker,
And hair lighter. 

When the there's no a worry on your mind, Instead, thought of adventure.
When music gets louder, 
And watermelon sweeter.
Polaroid taking, 
Memory making. 

Then the nights get longer,
And every second is so surreal. 
But just to think,
When summer comes to an end, 
You wait another year, 
To do it all over again....
