the memory of yesteryear

Polaroid Expired
Your memory is
like an expired polaroid
film - I still keep it

as though it would be
the most precious treasure of
mine, yet I am

aware of the truth:
till I walk this earth I will
never take a look at it....

Polaroid
Three, two, one. . . Smile
When cameras snap and flicker
Happiness brought for awhile
Three, two, one. . . Smile
Different poses and style
Comes a photo to remember
Three, two, one. . . Smile
When cameras snap and flicker...

The Cowboy
A camera chasing starlit cowboy

With his permanent Polaroid entrance

Eyes sweeping the paparazzi parade

Movie-dust circles his still silhouette

Extras edging in the dimming shadows

Of his passing left-over soft shining...

Polaroid Picture
River blue t-shirts
side by side,
three pairs of shoulders.

Wish on an eyelash
for wide smiles,
and shades of black-brown eyes,
gleaming.

Favourite, yellow flower
twelve of them
tied with floral tape
on the new moon, monday,
bright blue sky
Timeless, Polaroid picture....

Life In Polaroid
one thing we are never told
pictures taken in polaroid
have a way of fading over time

very much like you and me
and the picture we used to be
no longer has that kodachrome shine

it happens to the best of us
the color fade of wanderlust
bringing out the worst in black and white

one thing i'm relying on
although i'm barely hanging on
is the picture of us left in my mind...

Premium Member A Faded Polaroid Snapshot
Long, winding gravel driveway
  decrepit old Mercury station wagon
    parked there
    doors unlocked
    those big red buttons
    sticking up
     no seatbelts either
Tiger lilies blooming
  all-at-once, on
  either side
  of the gravel
A few years later
  a cockeyed backboard
  appeared on a tree
    supporting an
    uneven, rickety
    basketball rim

Winters we spent shoveling snow...

Obselete
I'm obselete,
Yesterday's news
Cast aside
In the name of progress

Left on the shelf
To wither and die
Like a dusty ZX Spectrum
Or Polaroid camera

Out of sight
And out of mind
No longer a burden
For my beloved family

I pray for death
To kick down the doors
And end these lonely hours
Of staring into space

He's the one thing
That never goes out of date
So please deliver me
To heaven's gate...

Quake
Memories stick together like old polaroid pictures in a damp box...
I hold on to the ground as it violently shakes with a wave of aftershocks...
The earth has shifted and rearranged my life; turning it upside down...
I run through those sticky pictures in my mind... A baby. A wedding gown...
The walls shake and fall apart leaving only the stains...
Everything has suddenly changed, yet the pain still remains......

A polaroid, in
my drawer, under the junk
- a memory found.

Wow, I miss fun, it's
like there was another life
- a past life shared.

Remember parties?
Sweaty dancing then a plunge
in the cold lake?

I feel like an old
lady reliving childhood
in sterile pics.

Everything I thought
my life would be is gone or
on nebulous hold.

We're learning a dull
brand of patience - strange for
the microwave age....

Paper Mache Talk
She has dandelion hair
and when the wind blows
I already have my wish

All the clouds were crying
as stars fell from her dress
her roots grew bird houses for hollow skeletons,
shells to hold shells to hold promises made.

Her skin was polaroid
tanned stained sepia toned
broken boned and dancing.

Empty quiver hunting trips
tangled in her own antlers
spider webs connecting dots
of her scattered constellations....

My beautiful little bluebird
How I love you so
I long to taste your presence
And what it means to know
That you and I are singing songs
Far into the night
We fade into each other
Desire burning bright

In a dream it's you and me
There's no one else around
Our synchronistic breathing
Is the only sound
In sotto voce I call out
Your name into the void
Only you can hear it
An audible Polaroid...

Summer
When the final school bell rings,
And "summer" is being chanted.
When the water gets warmer,
And the sun shines brighter,
Skin darker,
And hair lighter.

When the there's no a worry on your mind, Instead, thought of adventure.
When music gets louder,
And watermelon sweeter.
Polaroid taking,
Memory making.

Then the nights get longer,
And every second is so surreal.
But just to think,
When summer comes to an end,
You wait another year,
To do it all over again....
