of an amethyst foxglove,
tubular blooms
erect as trumpets.
A jeweled angel
pauses on an obelisk,
transparent
but for sun's shimmer
dancing on diaphanous wings,
until a feral gust
whisks it into porcelain air....

Monolith
Sending my soul

Monolithic skin

Shining high
The substrate of my soul
Is dark, and small, and

Many names are written there
Ones who gave their lives for freedom
For others in our care

Looking back for all the reasons
Most of them are ill defined
To account for all upon the wall
Who were lost, now brought to mind

Night lights reflect upon the names
When looking East along the wall
The obelisk to our first president
Points to heaven for them all...

These deep summer days
turn opal toward evening,
then amber in a parting 
of light and darkness.

There is a sureness
in the citron, a yearning
for the flames fanned
in the flickering children
dancing in tall blue-green weeds
as the last shadows of sun
turn lawn chairs to brass.

An obelisk of moon rolls
on the thick cloth sky
like an amethyst vase
arranged on tables with stars
like fruit and unmoving
grand parents sacred as artists....
