Two Ninety-Six Point Thirty-Three
I count the steps from my bed to the door
And I wonder if I can.
I count the steps from my bed to the door
And I wonder if I dare not to.
I've spent years wondering--
I've kept my head in the clouds,
Or in books,
Or under the sheets
To be anywhere but here.
There must have been times when I've been elsewhere

Grandma You Are Gone
Grandma you are gone
As you died in your sleep
At the ripe old age of ninety-six
You were always so healthy
Except at the end
You helped my mom raise me
To me you were like a mom
You were never lazy
And worked so hard as a nurse
For those suffering from throat cancer
In Houston
Yes, you were a beautiful grandma
You will be dearly missed...

From youngsters he was older than six times twice.
I am ninety-six he told his grandson Roy.
I know what to do, so leave me alone little boy....

Freshly picked out of his Great Grandma Nora’s garden
She spoils him by warming up his maple syrup and melting his butter.
He is a forty-six-year-old great grandson who lives at home
With his mother’s grandmother,
a kind hearted woman whom he carries from room to room
because at ninety-six her legs stopped working.
She does for him, and he does for her.
It is the best relationship he has ever had....
