Shadows Past
Shadows/Past
Written: by Tom Wright
March 2015
Your past is like a shadow
That never ceases stalking you.
At times it may rest undetected
But always manages to catch up
At some inopportune time;

Size Is the Culprit
Big brave fellow, I've brought you up well
Behaved yourself but sometimes it was hell
You kept flopping out
Your size no doubt
But you took inopportune moments to stand up and swell

Hidden
Deep within my tissue hidden from the eye
there is a secret I don't want you to know
The unknown comes at the wrong time
Depriving life's joy and comforts
The secret is always present coursing through
my veins. Promised to reveal itself at a most inopportune time....

It Sits In Judgment
There’s a voice that hides
with message plain
“IT STILL IS NOT ENOUGH”
No matter how the
phrases turn
“THEY LACK THE FINER STUFF”
It sits in judgment
undeterred
to flame and scold unbound
To speak when I’m
inopportune
—and turn me inside out
(Dreamsleep: June, 2022)...

life has it happens
LIFE AS IT HAPPENS
BAD THINGS HAPPEN AT THE MOST INOPPORTUNE TIME.
WE CALL IT MURPHY'S LAW, BAD LUCK, EVEN KARMA.
GOOD THINGS HAPPEN, AND WE REFER TO IT AS SERENDIPITY,
MIRACLES OR A FORTUNATE EVENT.
BE IN THE MOMENT AND EMBRACE THE DAY AS IT COMES.
YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT GOD WILL SURPRISE YOU WITH....

We Met In June
We met in June, on a fine afternoon
Our hearts did swoon, under the full moon
You said we'd meet soon, my heart was in tune
We were so attuned, in our sweet cocoon
Each day was our honeymoon, as we spooned
It was inopportune, love bloomed in June

Inopportune Poems
Poems tend to invite themselves to my mind
When I’m supposed to be doing other things
Like homework, driving, or paying attention in class
My creativity flourishes
The need to write consumes me
I can't let the perfect palabras
Waste away simply because I'm on the clock
My inner poetess would be pissed
I must give in to her and these poems
They are the only things keeping me sane
In this dry, monotonous routine...

Worth the Read
I have bookshelves of heartache
that I haven't written yet,
bloodstained pages of regret
that I haven't found words for,
a pen that always runs out of ink
in the most inopportune of moments.
Leaving me breathless in a storm of quiet,
thunderous discontent.
Everyone has a story;
I'm still stitching this one together,
one stanza at a time.
I only hope, after all of this..
It will be worth the read.

Poet's Dilemma
Recapturing thought can be more elusive
than chasing butterflies with pole and net
word's peltering mind like hailstone's
eventually evaporate.........
must wait for the brain cloud to rain again
Somewhere in the dark recess sit's an insomniac host
inmost phrase's at inopportune moment
inactivity appears not to be an option
managing time........proper use of space
pen to paper , the point will trace
eloquent style is where I find my peace...........

TIME
IT'S SO HARD TO KEEP UP WITH YOU, AND THINKING ABOUT YOU IS EXHAUSTING.
NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL YOU AND KNOWING THAT YOU'RE ALL ABOUT CHANGE AND SHOWING UP AT AN INOPPORTUNE TIME HAS BECOME A CUSTOM AND PART OF OUR RELATIONSHIP.
WHEN I WANT TO CAPTURE A MOMENT OF HAPPINESS, YOU GO, AND WHEN I'M HURTING, YOU OVERSTAY YOUR WELCOME.
I KNOW THAT LONG AFTER I'M GONE, YOU'LL STILL BE THERE, AND ALL I ASK IS FOR YOU TO SHOW MORE LOVE TO MY SON THAN YOU HAVE TO ME.

North Carolina
Yesterday there was an earthquake in North Carolina
Some things were knocked off the shelves
And broken
Ceilings caving in
And the whole world wondered
Because earthquakes never happen in North Carolina
I laughed out loud when it occurred to me that
I am North Carolina
Bits and pieces being knocked from my shelves
Unexpected shaking
At the most inopportune time
In a place that never shakes
Turns out that even the most sturdy
Of places
Needs to fall to pieces sometimes...
