The Pivot

he plants his right hind
rocks back onto his haunches
front crossing over
he falls into his pivot
with practiced ease and beauty

Of Love

OF LOVE

Love has no bounds
pouncing on us reckless
Like a playful cat
on haunches hunting yarn balls
and shadows bats and sparrows
Making sudden illogical leaps

Some are sensitive more than others It's an inbred trait, just like a buffer Causes some problems We get up on our haunches Uncontrollable it is, right down to the buzzer

Premium Member Agree To Never Share a Rumor

rumor should have stopped at our living room
not sure what happened
temporary insanity?
we discussed it
agreed to never share it with others
both lied apparently
came back to bite us in the haunches
served us right
knew better

Haiku Trilogy

Fox poises mid-step

Rabbit scent tantalizes

Mouth waters wildly

Eyes peer intently

Haunches crouched, slung low to ground

Biding time to spring

Mountain lion growls

Padded feet part tall grasses

Hunter now hunted

Ifog Cloud

they come like little pawed feet
gathering strings and yarns of life
silently sitting on their haunches
eager to peek further in the door
'til hounds arouse to nip at bytes
and paws skitter and move on

Stage Right

Center stage left, and exit.
	Enter the Demon stage right-
And there he comes to play; weaving
His way, piteously, throughout the act.
Lurking on haunches in plain sight.
	We smile with mirth; delight.
Oh what a scene! What a show!
	Then the lights go out.
Woefully, crowds recognize that which was not fiction.

At the Des Moines River’s Road End
There was a sharp tricky right bend
Prickly pines there were ready to defend
Graveled middle, a modern MODOT trend

Weeds that flittering faeries often tend
Mushroom homes, upon whom elves defend
Mother nature sat on haunches to mend
Torn sage weeds, beavers had chewed to extend.

Premium Member Now Mommy

hey, mommy, can I please read a page?
the kitten was sitting on her haunches, waiting.
The next page, the girl promised.
She was loving this adventure story.
Every line was a treat to read.
Kitty sat high on her haunches.
Now, Mommy?
In a second, the girl replied.
It is very difficult to relinquish a book like this.

Mask Head

Monotone some would say
black and white this is true
but not like simple nothing new
sitting comfortably on the couch
a look of intensity
seriousness
as if almost reaching bliss
paws out front
haunches bent
tail forthright between two back legs
he slouches
upon his head he wears a mask
like a bandit
as he is named

Private Drive

Moonshine drapes
 laundered white
  wetting two
   raw appetites
Petite niblets
 morsels of feast
  captured by
   rocking beast
Flash of light
 off window pane
Motherhood tattoo
 nary a shame
Tepid buttermilk
 readied sup
  served in flowered
   demitasse cup
Perched on haunches
 shutter release
Private drive
 now restful peace

The Ride

Long and vigorous neck,
connection to the mind,
haunches carry me,
no greater power I will find.

The back and spine move freely,
such a gift to be up here,
in full gallop an adrenaline rush,
I smile from ear to ear.

Every single time I ride,
I treasure the significance,
an animal carrying me on its back,
such a gift, what magnificence!

Premium Member Bloodcurdling

Royally draped over a soft cushion
hugging a soft, fluffy white carpet
her gaze wanders
to the flickering images
on the TV screen
before her...
abruptly transfixed
rocking on her haunches now
her eyes darting back and forth
as if at a ping-pong match...
she tenses now
back arched
hints at moving
A bloodcurdling SCREAM is heard
she leaps; flies away

Cloudburst

A Cloudburst

Only now too clear, _ it seems…
Lifted on haunches of late morning mists
A long lost sun once pulled from blue skied dreams

Only now too clear, _ it seems…
That never known before
Past early morning’s darkened clouds had schemed

A callused heart; tracked by tears that had since run dry
Hadn’t waked me to say goodbye
I never knew that sunless day, stowed away

A Quandaring

Wise men in love sit back on their haunches,
Letting their hair curl, developing paunches.
They darest not act 'cause they've got rationale,
They state as their eyes flick from gal unto gal.

Philosophers study the love of some things
They say must be thought and not strummed on
heartstrings.
To ignore what's in front, they will gaze up above,
'Cause they know that a fool is the wisest in love.

Premium Member Preschool Teachers Know What to Say

"please sit on your sitzfleisches,"the 4th grade teacher said
Preschoolers do not understood German, so they continued to stand
"Sit on your hindquarters!" This was stated a bit louder.
The kids stared at her, still not understanding.
"Your haunches, your petootsies, your derrieres!"
They looked totally consternated now.
A preschool teacher walked in.
"Sit on your pockets," she said.
They all sat.

Chipmunk Island

A chipmunk chases another,
who somehow vice-versas the first,
One chipmunk pops out of a hole,
and hops across the lawn,
and stops upon the wall,
and rests upon its haunches,
to chew up a maple seed,
One jumps up a rohodendron’s wiry arms,
and scrambles to get lost among the leaves,
Piercing with a peep somewhere deeper in the woods,
Does The Tall look down at a fighting-to-rat-race us like it's cute little chippering play?

Gremlin's Arrival

Today
I email
I google
I print
But at night the gremlin arrives
He lives deep in my cupboard
And when he is ready
comes out of the shadows
malevolence in his eyes

I awake bright and early
The sun still asleep
Today I have deadlines to meet
I push the on button
His dirty deed done
Sitting back on his haunches
to witness the fun
No printing
No google
No emails

Quicksilver

darkness into darkness forms,
atoms swirl, congeal, and swarm,
the dark gets darker, blacker still,
folds in upon itself at will

a fluid, liquid, shifting shape,
a mass upon which shadows drape,
the black gets denser by degrees,
straining eyes attempt to see

deep, instinctive, primal fear
comprehends that evil's near,
slightly canine, haunches low,
it glides the way quicksilver flows

foundations cracked, beliefs erased,
just emptiness to take its place
