Stories These Doilies Could Tell
Nearly everything ends up
in a flea market
much loved treasures
end in a new home
someone's loss
is someone's gain
my parents like
will never come again....

Premium Member Forgotten Beauties
The new owners
marveled at the
long forgotten perky mini doilies
with their dainty white petals

two layers of weeds away
from soft pink hollyhocks
hidden for forty years
alongside the forgotten abandoned barn

a human had probably not seen
any of these dainty delights since the eighties
when the farm was lost by the family
to bankruptcy...

Premium Member Rose Tea With Miss Gladys
Miss Gladys befriended me at church
Invited me to her house for rose tea
Her table was exquisitely set with lace and doilies
Embroidered napkins, and beautiful flowers
She put out the most gorgeous peacock tea cups
I had no idea how to sip between peacock’s head and tail.
Miss Gladys laughed at my consternation
Brought out her every day cups with a tray of cookies
I was immensely relieved...

Premium Member Winter White
Oh, I've dreamt of the crystalline morn
where the tinkle of ice melts, as the day's born.

In my sleep I've seen the lilac boughs dipped
in ice like egg white upon each buds tip.

Panes of glass with frost with doilies adorned
each melt in the sun, their passing is mourned.

As I rise, I see my dream's come to pass...
I stare from beneath down out through the glass.

Such is the magic of Winter's white days
when all of nature is a frosted bright glaze....

Premium Member May Day Back In the Day
Back in the day we had a maypole on May Day
We created May baskets out of doilies and construction paper
I loved adding bits of ribbon, aluminum foil and glitter.
We decorated them like Valentines boxes.
Filled them with tiny candies popcorn and violets.
It was fantastically fabulous, and I loved it!
Why did I have maypoles and May baskets?
Was it because I lived in a small town? Was it because of my mother?
Was it because we knew all of our neighbors back in the day?...

Wild and free along the roadside
Keeping the secrets of poison ivy
                                 She is mysteriously wise
                                  Twinkling and glittering
                                        Her white magic

Premium Member Autumnal Charm
chill arrives
twirling like white spine,
with each puff
stringed leaves coil
on embroidered trellises--
trimmed by russet tips

while moon hides,
gale spills fragrant mint
and bright dew,
touching skin
of buds charmed ,as autumn wind
encircles a dance

through waft's chimes
petals tip ballet
down wet lanes,
flaunting hues
dyed in fall’s velvet doilies--
casting season's spell!
