Outer Limits of the Baby Boom

Ours
is a rare connection
so rare, in fact
we fear it just like we feared
Mom's disapproval
or Dad's superiority.
Ain't it strange,
ain't it real
ain't it life?

Me

Me,
                                                        Not a poet
                                                Just freeing my day
                                            From lots of disapproval

Why Did you Wake Owl Up?

Owl in a box pops in and out and nods his head
Zebra steed rolls his eyes in disapproval, his cheeks all red.
Why did you wake owl up? Who threw him out of bed?
He usually sleeps all day, his nocturnal auntie said.

Untitled #49 / the Voicebox of God

In the corner the voicebox of God
lies silent except at 10:10 every morning
the pledge, the announcements, the moment
of silence, now his muted mouth
frowning silent disapproval.
What does He know of mortal strife?

The Echoes Are Herded

I remember a smile
and shuddered a laugh
those kids gasp at trumpet
a latent talent scrambled
our laughter grown in disapproval
leaving before removal
In between her smiles and howls
until the echoes are herded
gently into memory

Spring Clean

You wiped me out
The day
I was exhaled by that indigo storm.-
You stared at me with
Disapproval,
A frown sown to your forehead
As I lay on your fingertips.
Like dust in a dark old attic,
You disposed of me
To spring clean your life.

Nicknaming a Granddaughter

I would name her Power Wee Woman for that is what she will be.
Well-lit with enthusiasm for whatever passion she will pursue.
Nodding her head in approval or disapproval, a magic whee.
Then again, you might let allow her to nickname fully choose.

World Wide

Fate closes the wounds
of nameless ills
and seals the fathomless abyss
of grief and sorrow,
wearing the scars of destruction.
Exterior conflicts remain
a hard fact.
To seek inner peace,
one comes often face to face
with disapproval
of the inexperienced.

Unintelligible

A shift in consciousness
A callus formed
An attempt at a better life
Failure, disapproval, disregard
A lack of perspective
An excuse
A willingness
Loss, bitterness, overdrive
A callus formed
A shift in consciousness

Boudhanath Stupa

Hands brush
Against
Spinning prayer
Wheels
Gentle wishes
Drift among
snap-happy
Tourists
Who Forget
This moment

Joyful children
dodging
Wandering priests
Met by
Disapproval

Swaying flags
Teased
by the breeze
And
The Stupa
Towering above
Us all

Home of the Brave

Schackled the child cast in shame
by a father's disapproval.

Clipped the fledgling un-nuzzled
by an indifferent mother.

Brave the neglected one and
miraculous her recovery

climbing with effortful feet
the mountain to sun and stars.

The Lure of the Familiar

The streets of yesterday, comforting
   The landscape of tomorrow, forbidding

Familiar foods rouse fond memories
   Tampering with tradition, disapproval

My well-worn armchair's form-fitted to me
That new recliner, stiff as a bad knee

Your scent, your aura, ingratiating
   All others, alienating

Am I a Flower

Where lies the line,
between humility and pride,
when does ambition become greed.

How short is the distance,
from disapproval to wrath,
between admiration and envy.

How easy is it to turn,
infatuation to lust,
indulgence into gluttony.

Will we know when,
relaxation becomes sloth,
or when a flower becomes just a weed.

An American Horror Tale

She could not eat any faster if she had three mouths.
I am in Paris.
Gulping petite delicacies into my dessert hole.
They might escape if I slow down.
AMERICAN! a sixty-five pound weakling says in a disgusted tone.
I give him my American sign of disapproval of his disapproval.
He gives me the same sign back in French.
We both laugh.

Pompous Poetry

“Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis “ the medical term for lung disease caused by quartz dust is more than an absolute necessity to add to pompous poetry, it’s a must
Strengths on the other hand is a word that has only nine letters with all but one being a consonant
So tsktsk me to show your disapproval of my pompous poetry rant

The Power To Influence

On top, the crowd will chant your praises
Attention is the title to your theme song
No worries of disapproval cross your mind
Up on the podeum to influence the people of today
Tomorrow is not in your lexicon of this moment
Time has strengthened your global grasp
Crowds worshipping every dropped syllable
Every fumbled adjective is golden

The Morning Mists.

As the mists of dawn settle
Paying deep the consequences
Of it’s starlit flight
Hubris clinging to my dreams
Despite your disapproval
What can you hope to accomplish?
I have waged my battles…
Out of fear you withdrew from me
There are no more words to say
No tears left to fall for you
Now I spread them upon everything
Riding
The mists of dawn

Sitting In the Sun

I awaken to sunbeams
pushing back the night;
the day solidifies
before my eyes,
ignoring the ticking clock

ghosts squeak their disapproval
in faded floorboards,
paintings sharpen,
and graceful cats
pace in the hallway

stained glass accepts the light,
and colors crawl along the wall;
we all shine,
perhaps reluctantly,
sitting in the sun

Why Do Sleep Defeat You

Humans, O humans
Of flesh! Of bone!
Why do sleep defeat you so
Of mind and tongue
And hands and eyes
Why do you not tell sleep to go
Why do sleep defeat you so
Wake up! Wake up!
And fight this tyrant
Chant your disapproval, O will you not wake up?
Why do sleep defeat you so
As you lazily lay
In wonderland deep and far away
I can not help but wonder
Why do sleep defeat you so

A Double Handful of Haiku: Could Be

This piece is for National Poetry Day, Oct. 6, 2022. The theme this year is the environment, ergo...

I
Could be hurricanes
Are Mother Nature blowing
Off a little steam

II
Could be an earthquake
Is the Earth telling us she
Has a tummy ache

III
Could be volcanoes
Are just Earth's adolescent
Complexion issues

IV
Could be an eclipse
Is the universe scowling
In disapproval

Just a Little Kiss the Giraffe Said

Just a little kiss the giraffe said.
The donkey screeched no.
The monkey backed off.
The hyena fell on his back and laughed.

Just a little kiss the giraffe said.
The lion roared his disapproval.
The grizzly bear hid in the cave.
The tiger rolled her eyes and licked her cub.

Just a little kiss the giraffe said.
I stepped up for a kiss.
It was slurpy and amazing.
I loved it actually.

The Driver His Dog and Dodge

Driver drove down dark dewy dirt road,
Despite the deer crossing sign displayed.
Drowning donuts in coffee,driving deliriously.

Dog Daisy, in the rear is demanding dog food.
Driver doesn't decide to give into demands.
Drool dropped on the back seat, disinfectant was,
desired on designer dodge seat, a real disaster.
Disappointment, dismay and disapproval loomed
on the remainder of the dreary despicable trip.
