Deadbolt
The warmth of your fingers
Caressing my shaking shoulders,
The comforting weight of your arm
Resting around my waist.
Until you closed that door.
Rotted wood and a flimsy frame
The rusted golden knob sneers at me
Daring me to open it.
But I won’t.
I claw at the cracked pine,
Burying my nails into the decaying wood,
Shredding the once white paint.
Wishing it were you....

And Then It Stopped
A dark night, no stars, no moon,
light rain
the rumble of distant thunder
a gunshot, close
the sound of feet, running

doorknob turning
a rattle of the door

Something it needed and deserved).
I hope it can live in peace
if only for a short while///
before death primes the walls of its
tomb....

The Thunder Advance
Black and white rainbow with tornado eyes
spinning spotting hard on a lightning bolt;
Such electricity in a slow dance;
Rhythm picks up with the darkening skies
lingering on finger tip’s gentle jolt;
Detonation of pomp and circumstance
but really it’s merely a soft whisper;
Beginning with a lock of the deadbolt
you rendered me immobile with a chance
to feel our heart’s race watching the thunder
advance....
