Cumulous
There were nights
I was convinced the weather
in my head had seeped
out of my ears and
dyed the atmosphere.
Snow would cascade
over darkness,
land on streaked cheeks.

Now there are nights
I realize even clouds
have to let go of that
which makes them dense....

Sailing Ships
I sat alone upon the shore
watching ships sailing in the sky
White schooners flying in rapport
I sat alone upon the shore
listening to the ocean's roar
cumulous clouds were drifting by
I sat alone upon the shore
watching ships sailing in the sky

Stirring To Storms
Eye twitch to thunder
Bed stretch to rain
Pod of our house
with tin roof as our skin
Drip of papayas
Moment of green
Every last leaf
with a slick and a sheen
Compass of darkness
Clouds kissing trees
Cumulous whisper
to us on our knees
Noses to windows
Peeping to see
the music which pulled us
from blankets of sleep....

Lightening
I saw a flash
Six billion electrons
So many horses in so little space
The charging calvary
Of light
In shape of forking tongue
Sizzling
The forehead
And cumulous-nimbus dark frown
And the hooves
Rolling far away
The last rider
Pounding
On the scream of day.
It was then I understood
Charlemagne
Small as bead as sweat
Surrendered
To postponed death....

Should I whisper words
that hang on memory’s peaks,
cumulous across my forehead?

A world of words - connected
like tides to the moon.

Words that mingle and rise,
as mist from a valley
or, dwell in half forgotten dreams;
endless as ocean waves,
or vistas of flowering fields.

Beautiful words
that tell me of my place.

natures playground gleams against a setting of loveliness
cumulous sky clouds dip low, invading air space of sage bald eagle
buffalo, moose and elk bring silence to the mountains
silver cottonwood trees shrug their shoulders at this glorious canvas
humankind is unwelcome, so they can keep it ethereal
puma patters forth, silently intimidating the rest of the creatures...

Sun Shafts
The cumulous arrive in train;
with thrusting breath that reeks of rain,
a roiling moody, leaden pall,
to shroud the world in shadow-fall.

Thunder grumbles; muted flashes,
rain with sting and wind with lashes,
a blanket, nebulous, intends,
for blue to meet ignoble ends.

When all seems lost and Sol's retreated,
in evidence he's not defeated;
a shaft of sunlight tells the wary,
the veil's only temporary.

Green leaves listless languor lushly suspended

Dew glistening on grassy fields in early morn

Breeze gathering, cumulous clouds upended

Sun's rays burning through atmosphere's haze, reborn

Sweet corn on the cob gracing street vendors' stalls

Ice cream creations on cones piled up so tall

Love's blossoms on flower petal arrangements

Bridal showers, joyous wedding engagements

Through the Fire
You may have to go it alone
Bear the heat and discomfort on your own

It can be devastating and suffocating
No fresh air to breathe, only heat and smoke that is debilitating

The burns and wounds may be severe
But will you keep going? Can you persevere?

Despite all the cumulous smoke
If you can keep peering and not choke

If you can still aspire
Amid sweltering heat from the fire

If you can just keep going through it
There is a beautiful place for you if you don't quit...
