Winter Coats

..and in some lonely doorway
lay the homeless,
huddled together to share some
little warmth
but
it'll be
'ice cold in Alex..'
before they can relax,

it's chilly out there
they bear it well
it
must be hell though.

Men In Lab Coats

Ivory bushes bear
accelerated evolution
and abstract incarnations
a reverie reserved as veil
fables too blatant to reveal
crescendos rise within
what remains of
the cityscape's heartbeat
science knows what we fear

Strait Talk

I talk to the trees and they listen to me I whisper sweet nothings they renew the air I breathe I talk to the trees tho' they don't respond beats speaking to myself in the back of beyond I talk to the trees tho' they never reply my words go unanswered don't ask them why I talk to the trees tho' they have little to say so the men in white coats they put me away

Premium Member Look At Those Raccoon Coats

They must be rich and exotic, we neighbors surmised.
They had gorgeous raccoon coats, a huge surprise.
Drove automobile that cost more than my house.
I see flash of a luxurious expensive silk blouse.

When they moved in, they elevated the rest of us.
We tried to act normal, without much of a fuss.
But they were ritzy, and we were dreary and plain.
We never got invited to their parties, don’t remember their name.

Premium Member Their Coats Reeked - Hlm

a flurry of snow
natures ticker-tape parade...
snowflake confetti

Snow day students were tickled pink today
playfully making snow angels all-day
but nobody knew
they laid in dog poo
till that thin layer of snow got scraped away.

And as their coats reeked, they sat at the back of the bus the next day.

Coats of Autumn

Painting #5
Autumn in France by Emily Carr 1911

Coats of Autumn

Satisfied,
long awaited
summer fades
into an explosion
of color, I bask
in the many coats of Autumn
draped across the shoulders
of a grateful people.

Merci to the Creator
of such splendor,
I behold textures
unlike any other

As far as the eyes can see,
I stare into unmeasured
beauty, absorbing it all
before the snow brings
beauty of its own.

Premium Member Coats of Silk

There’s a man up on high
Wearing the longest star studded
Black silk coat I have ever seen
And a big yellow button with a gleam

He changes just after dawn
Awakening with a yawn
He looks sober in a white silk coat
An orange button on his neckline

After toiling the whole day in the sun
At twilight he wears colours of rays for fun
Purple Orange Crimson silk coat shining bright
Holding breathtaking views in the dusk light.

Forgotten Coats

I sink lower in the cupboard
of the front hall closet
beneath the stairs,
behind a row of forgotten coats
that hang quietly before me.
They mock my cowardice
as I crouch beneath their silent judgement...
I'm alone in the shadows created by a
jaundiced yellow bulb that barely burns
brighter than the flame on a candle.

I hug my knees as I sit and wallow in regret for my mistakes;
but all I really want to do is stand up
and tear down every last coat, one-by-one.

Duffel Coats

He had a duffel coat once,
so did she. They must have looked
well-matched
walking in Regents Park
that Autumn.

In time
the coat shop on Oxford Street
died of old age.
Duffel went out of style.

They wore them still.
One day
her duffel was neatly folded,
into a labeled, cardboard box.

His coat developed Alzheimer’s
in a tumble-down closet.

When they unhooked from each other,
he packed only empty pockets,
and a small bundled
of toggles and loops.
