Brown Leaf
Brown leaf, how you float--
so graceful, so unburdened.
How I envy you.

Bird Watching
Listen--quiet, still.
The forest holds its own breath.
Birdsong threads the air.

Birds
Beady black eyes gleam,
gold and orange wings take flight--
watch them chase the wind.

Band of Gold
A band of gold is all she wears--
no need for diamonds or fancy wares.
Simple, yes, but rich with grace--
for when it slipped upon her hand,
two hearts found their sacred place.

Lazy Lion
The lazy lion lingered by the lake,
licking his luscious lips,
listening lightly as he laid
like a lump by the log,
longing to lunch on a lovely lamb--
if it would only land in his lap.

All I Ever Needed
Flowers wilt and lose their aroma.
Cards are sweet, but to the garbage they retreat.
Candy is yummy, but adds pounds to my tummy.
Gifts and teddy bears are cute...
but all I ever needed was I love you!

Fear
Fear--entangling me,
ensnaring me,
with cold hands,
twisting my heart,
tearing at my soul.

Hiding inside,
it moves and
breathes.

Paralyzed,
I stop thinking--
it takes what it wants,
leaving me shaken.

Alive
Something has awakened you.
Your bed is soft--silky too.
You start to feel around,
side to side, up and down.

Then, you freeze--
screaming inside your mind.
Your mouth has been sutured shut.
It seems you’ve been buried alive.

Don't Cry
Mommy, Mommy--
please don’t cry.
Here I am,
by your side.

You can’t feel me,
you can’t see,
but in your heart,
I will always be.

Now dry your eyes
and rest awhile,
holding me
in your mind,

remembering me
with a smile.

Seasons
Winter is a blanket,
tucking in the Earth.

Spring is a flower,
stretching toward the sky.

Summer is the grass,
swaying in the wind.

Fall is the breeze,
dancing through the air.

The seasons turn in circles,
forever spinning time.

Lover's Rose
A rose of red velvet
gleams in the moonlight,
dusted with the night’s silver dew.

It whispers of a love that is abiding--
a love filled with desire and romance.

Seek this love and give your heart,
with this lover’s rose at first chance.

Clouds
Look at all the clouds I see--
comfy little beds to me.
So fluffy and soft,
so much more than moss.

Up, up--I’ll fly so high,
crumpling clouds as I pass by.
Then I’ll snuggle down, you see,
and maybe dream a dream of
you,
me,
and baby three.

November Praise
The month of November--
a time to remember,
to lift up our hearts
in thanksgiving and splendor.

We gather in grace,
our voices raised high,
to praise the Lord
beneath autumn skies.

With hearts aligned,
in sweet accord,
we give our thanks
unto the Lord.

Witness
Remembering is easy,
but you think the past is best forgot.
Prayers appeared unanswered,
but you think that was just your lot.

But God was listening--
to the angels He was whispering:
Her life will be a witnessing,
not a wasted birth,
to all the lives she touches
on this planet Earth.

Butterfly Wishes
Today, a butterfly
fluttered through the sky.

Swooping, drawing near--
floating close enough to hear

the wish whispered softly
through teardrops, a little salty.

It landed on a tiny nose
and heard the giggle as it goes.

To the heavens it soared up high,
releasing the wish on a little sigh.

For My Little Boy
For my little boy,
who brings me so much pride and joy.

He captured my heart,
but truthfully--he had it from the start.

It’s really quite simple--
his smile… and that dimple.

I’ll be sad when he starts to grow,
but there’s one thing I’ll always know:

He will forever be mine,
our hearts forever entwined.

Frankii
A baby was born, but has not
felt her mother’s love.

Her mother is sick--
a heroin addict.

But the angels watch over her
from heaven above,
blessing each giver indeed
that helps meet this baby’s needs.

So that when she leaves this
cold, sterile place,
she feels the love and comfort
of her grandparents’ embrace.

Goodbye
I lay in bed on this quiet night
and know I will leave before it is light.
I kiss you goodbye
and pray you do not hear me cry.

Our dreams lay broken,
our grief unspoken--
hearts cut open
and emotionally frozen.

Our hopes in tomorrow
are now filled with sorrow,
and have flown with the sparrow,
like time that was borrowed.

Neglect
Neglect
Do you see her?
There, hiding in the corner?
A little girl,
with soft little curls.

Tears drip from her eyes--
and you wonder why?
Oblivious to the bruises
on her pale, translucent arms.

Afraid to see the burns
on her thin little thighs.
With a sad little smile,
she slowly disappears.

You wear an awkward smile
and push away your fears.

Storm
Today I watched
as daylight faded into night.
A fierce wind rose and howled--
the trees bent under its might.

Dark clouds gathered,
smothering stars and moon.
Thunder crashed and echoed--
a sky-shaking, roaring tune.

Bolts of lightning split the dark,
illuminating sheets of rain.
I wondered when it might be done--
but the storm returned again… and again.

Time To Say Goodbye
On this cold and lonely night,
with the moon shining bright,
I lie awake, your picture clutched tight.

The memories cannot be denied,
haunting the caverns of my mind--
like a thief in the night.

How do I say goodbye?
Filled with sadness, I cry,
blaming myself for all the pain.

The tears I shed, they fall like rain.
Loneliness and sorrow
are all that remain.

Halloween Witch
Halloween is finally here--
she’s had to wait a whole year.

She brushes the dust from her broom,
and flies out the window into the gloom.

Looking for belladonna that’s blue,
to stir into her witches’ brew.

So if you see her fly overhead,
you’d better hurry and jump into bed!

She’s looking for little boys and girls too...
to stick them in her yummy beef stew.

Heaven In My Arms
Lying here, thinking of you,
listening to the rain--
I need your love to see me through,
I just want to feel your touch.

And through the door you come,
you take my hand in yours.
I feel my body hum
as your heart beats with mine.

The flame starts low, spreading over all.
I taste your breath with mine.
Our hearts and souls enthrall--
feels like heaven in my arms.

My Shepherd
I was but a little lost sheep,
who laid down by the river to sleep.
My Shepherd walked across the water,
to rescue me for keeps.

He picked me up when I faltered,
and washed my sins away.
He made me white as snow,
with the blood He freely gave.

He is more precious than gold,
for He died on the cross for my salvation,
so that I may bow before God
in humble adoration.

Weeping Song
There is an ancient tune,
as old as the wandering moon.
It floats on gentle breeze,
of a woman weeping.

It moans softly through the trees
and haunts you when you dream.
Her tears are like a gentle stream,
of lost lullabies she will never sing.

It whispers faintly in the rain
emptiness of arms that never fade.
Death and loss is all that pervade
on her nightly serenade.
