Your mouth has been sutured shut.

fluttered through the sky.

Swooping, drawing near--
floating close enough to hear

the wish whispered softly
through teardrops, a little salty.

It landed on a tiny nose
and heard the giggle as it goes.

To the heavens it soared up high,

I’ll be sad when he starts to grow,

A baby was born, but has not
felt her mother’s love.

Her mother is sick--
a heroin addict.

But the angels watch over her
from heaven above,
blessing each giver indeed
that helps meet this baby’s needs.

So that when she leaves this
cold, sterile place,
she feels the love and comfort
of her grandparents’ embrace.

I kiss you goodbye

Our dreams lay broken,
our grief unspoken--
hearts cut open
and emotionally frozen.

and have flown with the sparrow,
like time that was borrowed.

Do you see her?
There, hiding in the corner?
A little girl,
with soft little curls.

Tears drip from her eyes--
and you wonder why?
Oblivious to the bruises
on her pale, translucent arms.

Afraid to see the burns
on her thin little thighs.
With a sad little smile,
she slowly disappears.

You wear an awkward smile
and push away your fears.

as daylight faded into night.
A fierce wind rose and howled--
the trees bent under its might.

Dark clouds gathered,
smothering stars and moon.
Thunder crashed and echoed--
a sky-shaking, roaring tune.

Bolts of lightning split the dark,
illuminating sheets of rain.
I wondered when it might be done--
but the storm returned again… and again.

with the moon shining bright,
I lie awake, your picture clutched tight.

The memories cannot be denied,
haunting the caverns of my mind--
like a thief in the night.

How do I say goodbye?
Filled with sadness, I cry,
blaming myself for all the pain.

The tears I shed, they fall like rain.
Loneliness and sorrow

she’s had to wait a whole year.

She brushes the dust from her broom,
and flies out the window into the gloom.

Looking for belladonna that’s blue,
to stir into her witches’ brew.

She’s looking for little boys and girls too...
to stick them in her yummy beef stew.

who laid down by the river to sleep.
My Shepherd walked across the water,
to rescue me for keeps.

He picked me up when I faltered,
and washed my sins away.
He made me white as snow,
with the blood He freely gave.

He is more precious than gold,
for He died on the cross for my salvation,
so that I may bow before God
in humble adoration.

as old as the wandering moon.
It floats on gentle breeze,
of a woman weeping.

It moans softly through the trees
and haunts you when you dream.
Her tears are like a gentle stream,
of lost lullabies she will never sing.

It whispers faintly in the rain
emptiness of arms that never fade.
Death and loss is all that pervade
on her nightly serenade.
