Goodbye

I lay in bed on this quiet night
and know I will leave before it is light.
I kiss you goodbye
and pray you do not hear me cry.

Our dreams lay broken,
our grief unspoken--
hearts cut open
and emotionally frozen.

Our hopes in tomorrow
are now filled with sorrow,
and have flown with the sparrow,
like time that was borrowed.
