On her face the portrayal:
Was undeserved betrayal:
While resting in mortuary;
Later in her obituary.
But her photo had come first:
A scream-it-to-The World thirst.
But I have my own challenge:
What would finding a thing change?
Lies that could break a strong heart:
She’d shoplifted in a mart?
Or whisper desultory
Alleging adultery
“Man had been a betrayer,
Her face ‘not First Soothsayer…”

Let’s keep their apartment through Christmas someone suggested.
Although their mother was gone, and their dad had been arrested.
He will be back, right? An optimist asked, eager to think the best.
Doubtful, one replied. He embezzled bunches to feather his nest.
But the kids kept the apartment, where they came for Christmas Eve.
They brought their childhood stories and told them without reprieve.
The times they had shoplifted, making their scoundrel dad proud.
Many didn't understand, said some, laughing loudly, a holiday crowd.
This was the last Christmas these siblings would all be together.
They enjoyed sharing favorite food and staying out of the weather.
When they said good bye, they did not embrace or overreact.
Not realizing it was the last time, now a well-known family fact.

To honor my hero.
A wee superhero.
Has shoplifted my heart
Autistic, but so smart.
Place him in shopping cart
Grandma can we see toys;
He makes such welcome noise.
Look at that,
Look at that.
Look at the bubble,
A bubble in a bubble.
Bubbles going faster.
My living-room a disaster.
A wee superhero the master,
He came into my life
In a time of bitter strife.
My wee bug
Welcomes with bear hugs.
To honor my Hero
A wee superhero.

I had been a small town girl
thought ski tags off expensive jackets meant
jackets were shoplifted
when I left my small rural Iowa town
I saw skyscrapers, and women wearing
tennis shoes with business suits.
In New York City everyone does not say hi
It was a rude awakening.
