Small Town Girl

I had been a small town girl thought ski tags off expensive jackets meant jackets were shoplifted when I left my small rural Iowa town I saw skyscrapers, and women wearing tennis shoes with business suits. In New York City everyone does not say hi It was a rude awakening.

In NYC the nice people do not say 'Hi.' As for the mean people, what they say cannot be printed here... Fuggetaboutit

Yes, it is. And, sometimes, it is shocking. I remember how strange I felt in San Francisco when I would say, "Hi!", and someone would look back at me like I was nuts! I suppose I was...in that environment.

I think we're all naive until we experience the world outside of our comfort zone, Caren. New York city is a challenge at any age. For some reason, it seems we all think everyone else thinks like we do until we mature a little. We often see ourselves as unique once we've encountered others that are different from us. I enjoyed your poem. Hugs, Bill

It is crazy to go to a city where people are not people, but faces you are not "supposed to notice or address".
