Self Justification Poems | Examples

The Image

Humility is a fantasy
Born out of a narcissistic mind
He who appears to care so much
Convinces fools with niceties - most times

The image pushes away the camera
Yet poses with a smile
He donates money
Anonymous - In devilish style

His gospel flows freely
He has a restless appetite for the applause
We stare in admiration - amazement
Convinced - he's doing it for the cause

When he’s exposed we say there's Karma
A self-justification for ignoring all the signs
We were mesmerized by his performance
We silently idolized

Beware of the image
The image could be a reflection of you
Perhaps this isn't about admiring him
As much as it is about desiring admiration too?

If you are someone who WON’T compromise values,
Then tell me my friend how this makes you a saint?
For Bible, the Holy Book, you claim to worship,
Proclaims to the faithful that we all have taint!

Humility, brother love, mark of a Christian,
If you’re sure you’re in the right how is that you?
And different ideas suggest something’s fuzzy,
If you won’t discuss them, you’re no brother too.

Hypocrisy always the mark of the fallen
And judgement temptation of devil himself,
Though sad, disagreement with brother, not world’s end
And compromise good way to move off the shelf.

Could Tea Party leaders be truly satanic?
Self-justification can send you to Hell,
Our take on the Bible can never be Gospel
And questioning God sign you’re faithful as well!

The Bible says faith is the stairway to heaven
But claims you’ve no doubts suggest your faith is dead!
God’s Grace is not earned but the gift of Christ Jesus
Your pride in His gift must not go to your head.

Contrition

Laden too much with the hand-me-down traditions
I sought to make my burden light
Using some mechanics of mind and convention
To sift the darkness from the light.

I found nothing there in that void of knowing what I
Could not believe, except shadows
Of my will lurking everywhere, I answering my cry
Dancing to my heart’s hollow echoes.

And through and through my noise of self justification
The rhythm silent broke into song
The voice eternal, calls from turmoil without pacification
A chorus repeating itself all along

Cast your cares upon me for I care for you, take my yoke
And find your burdens fully gone
Empty mind and will and in my strength you shall evoke
Obedience bringing you the dawn.

Trust in me with all your heart, lean not on fickle knowledge
Changing as the seasons change veils
Piling detritus on detritus, working to salvage from garbage
A wisdom that every challenge fails.

I could not trust without surrender, could not believe until
I love, could not walk without direction
And worshipping YOU I to my Sinai came to do your will
And not understand: this ends rebellion.
