Contrition
Laden too much with the hand-me-down traditions
I sought to make my burden light
Using some mechanics of mind and convention
To sift the darkness from the light.
I found nothing there in that void of knowing what I
Could not believe, except shadows
Of my will lurking everywhere, I answering my cry
Dancing to my heart’s hollow echoes.
And through and through my noise of self justification
The rhythm silent broke into song
The voice eternal, calls from turmoil without pacification
A chorus repeating itself all along
Cast your cares upon me for I care for you, take my yoke
And find your burdens fully gone
Empty mind and will and in my strength you shall evoke
Obedience bringing you the dawn.
Trust in me with all your heart, lean not on fickle knowledge
Changing as the seasons change veils
Piling detritus on detritus, working to salvage from garbage
A wisdom that every challenge fails.
I could not trust without surrender, could not believe until
I love, could not walk without direction
And worshipping YOU I to my Sinai came to do your will
And not understand: this ends rebellion.
