Burning Bright

J-ust leave the dark behind,
E-arly beacon meets the day;
S-unshine warms your heart,
S-hadows have faded
A-way.

B-reak of the new dawn
I-s filled with warm light;
C-old chill and raindrops
A-re drifting into the night.
L-et the beautiful morn
D-eny the lonely twilight;
O-n eighth of December, crimson is burning bright.

Burning Flame Awaits Ahead

T-he moon passes by,
R-ise of the sun begins;
I-t's a lovely Sunday,
C-old rugged wind ends.
I-t's a beautiful morn, the twilight is gone;
A-bove the new horizon, the light meets the beacon.

I-t's a wonderful dawn,
N-ineteenth day of March;
V-ile weather turns fine,
E-vening rain is parched.
N-ight shadows disappear,
T-ime to leave the bed;
O-nward for warmth and shine, burning flame awaits ahead.

Memory

Feel that deep thought,
Memory knows;
Glimpse that odd lot,
As stillness shows.

Silence speaks best,
Harmony grows;
Sense a new zest,
In vibrant glow.

See how time tells,
Walk journey fare;
Think of strange spells,
Spice in old share.

Now old times curl,
As thought meets feel;
The present hurls,
Watch love's goodwill.

Joy in sure verse,
Hope in stray pain;
In a new burst,
A fond refrain.

Vermont

Flannel sheets and hard cider unravel the wound ball of uncertainty that never moves to the rear view window. Must, sparkable fire wood and 9 am coffee breath slithers its arm around my waist, the only part of myself that has never learned to accept what it sees in the mirror. At the breakfast table eggs get tossed to the outskirts and bacon is devoured in a sniff. Eyes meet eyes and regret meets consciousness. The fire gets extinguished along with lust. We tie up vintage skies and pull away in a tornado of air-borne snowflakes.

“To new beginnings”

But what happened to the old beginning?

Old Paradox, New Verse

A heavy mist rises
out of the valley
like gun smoke, rifling
the air, setting off a time piece
of timelessness.

The sound of dew dripping
from leaves, but no dew felt.

This unmetered rural wetness
that meets me most mornings
ever since I’ve transported
to this mystic realm.

This meditation, this poetry.

A thousand unspoken words
inhabit these fat, yellow-green leaves;
these long limbs.
These crooked Einstein branches.

The figure in the cane
whose greetings each morning
without language haunt me.
The sunless days and moonless nights
are the old paradox
of my new verse.

Cherry Blossom

A wonderful sight to behold.
Your grandeur is more
Than meets the eye.

From absolutely spectacular bloom
Until you've fallen in grace
Meeting earth, withering
Like snow with an ebb
And flow of gentle breezes.

Symbolising life;
Powerful, exhilarating, sublime
Yet short lived.
Reminding us how brief our lives are.

Sweet cherry blossom
Bringing hope,
Also dreams.
Endless opportunities bursting
Foreseeing for future reference.

Remembering loved ones
Showing life's beauty
Promising starting something new
Whilst shedding what's old.

Blessed Sakura
After all, we are you.

Final Day of the Year

F-inal day of the year
I-s also the new year's eve;
N-ight stars are shining,
A-s the gazers never
L-eave.

D-awn December thirty-first
A-ims to turn into twilight;
Y-es, the dusk is getting darker, until it meets the midnight.

O-n the final day of the year, the next first one will break;
F-rom old to the fresh start, many a promise to make.

T-he final day of the year
H-as to fade into the past;
E-vading the coming morrow, but not the time flying fast.

Y-ou and I plus the whole world
E-xpect peace and love so dear;
A-im at the prosperous future,
R-ise from final day of the year.

Wild Blue Yonder

At the shoreline
the sea meets the sand
            in transparent kiss
       then draws back to itself
in divine cycle
       the endless push/pull
            of ocean rhythm

Out to sea
the vast expanse breathes
             in deepening blue tones
       that ripen like fruit
blueberry
      plum
          blackberry

On the horizon
midnight sea cuts palest blue sky
          Taranga Island
      floats hazily
suspended
       in the wild blue yonder
            natures cathedral

Circle of Life

Circle Of Life (Ameri-Sonnet) With fear through the darkest night Leading me to those who wait Faithful I might win the fight Shielding me with strength of faith With peace often sought in vain When reaching from old to new There are wings of loss and pain But I shall be passing through No regrets when shadows part When passing the street called straight Rays of hope enter the heart It is leading to the gate There be triumphs and defeats When the circle of life meets Ameri-Sonnet as described by the creator Richard W. Jenkins 14-lines in seven syllables each, with a rhyme-scheme as follows:abab, cdcd, efef, gg

Keepsake

Here we sit,
Deep cheer greets mellow;
Touch wise wit,
Clear change meets shadows.

Stretch fond sight,
Glimpse time move swiftly;
Seek still light,
Breeze sifts cold strangely.

Time can sketch
Poise that grows gently;
Space frames etch,
Choice spins feel truly.

Rest on the wind,
We sit here resting;
Note odd din
Old times flood jesting.

Hand-in-hand,
Find rest here briefly;
Old thoughts grand,
Twin souls know clearly.

Dusk comes quick,
Too fast for sorrow;
New dawn speaks,
Prize thus time mellow.

Sad eyes look,
Time ooze fast falling;
Last page hooks,
Old tale now ending.

Living the Dream

There are days fulfilled by wonder,
    When a solar leap meets the horizon ahead.
Leaving remnants to unanswered questions,
    For a tutorial dreamscape instead.

Timing seems unimportant, as if no
    Difference exists between old and new.
While a flood of bits and scraps flow by,
    With strong currents to obscure any clue.

The lengthy productions have never shown
    Repeats, only new scenes yet to ignore.
As if a giant jig-saw puzzle is tossed down
    In pieces, and when unsolved, I'll just snore.

Regardless of any duration, the nightly
    Views seldom reach any memory to explain.
So I'm left with more clouded mystery,
    That only a sub-conscious can entertain.

Amour Kind Sir

Spying on your words
for the wondering wanderer you are
giving distance from afar
with waves of deep emotion
where it meets earth way to far...

Amour kind sir ...."pour l'~ de Dieu!"
loving care, she was his love affair...
It was during the winter cherry
flights untold, for all to be merry
spirit of prophecy golden haired....

Battlefields of love
die from an army of Eros's archers
that raises the mere hearts of old
in the yonder fields of Vandenberg
where the mighty sword has struck so bold...

Her sweet letters flew across the distant lands
to his blue eyes so new, weary from the struggles
he would read the hands of Angels
Oh, Amour Dear Kind Sir, I am in love with you...

Weather respite
Now just winds and minor flooding
SLUSH!
The human animal begins to believe
There is a God after all
Oil and dirt soaked snow outside doesn't look so bad
After all a spell indoors has restored
Pride in living
Floors swept
Everything meets the eye dusted
Hot tub after
Hot tub
So? gained a few pounds over
The holidays
Hell!    One feels like walking
The mall
Grocery store
Yes!
Restore depleted stock
And more.....
After sales
And after    after    after
After maneuvering the aisles
After slushing through streets parking lots
After the impersonal experience renews
So?
What's new -
Same old adrenalin surge
Same rejection after
Same morbid insecurity

Back in the hole again

Curiosity's Bane

A tree, a seed, prescribed, off-limits.
Naked, clothed, some years, fresh still,
Fair, hell, firm, etc.
Dangling tags, seen on anything

Man learns, as his feet stands and sits.
He meets firm labels and loud leads.
Patterns his feet flow in, with ease.
And ends, well-clear from older prints

Acceptance is oft done by force.
Fear, though fierce, drowns not heart’s uproar:
The schism that births a new course.
And with more legs, births a new dawn.

These rows have given life new teeth
And make ageless earth look so young:
Lay on her, new beds of beauties,
As new unruly legs are formed.

Such rows also lead to disgust
And turn shame into things just.
They miss the wisdom old prints give
And make proud chains with fate ugly.

Dream Rendezvous

Every night I dream of you,
Could I be in your dreams too?
Last night I saw you smiling,
A sweet smile so beguiling,
But your thoughts I could not see!
Were you also dreaming of me?

Dreamt you walking down the road,
Walking past my old abode,
I live now in a different town,
My new place to you unknown,
To my heart’s door you have my key,
were you then looking for me?

I hear my bedroom phone ringing,
When I answer, I hear you breathing,
my hello, hello meets your silence,
To speak love needs no licence,
When two beating hearts agree!
Why not say something to me?

Fear the seasons, moving time,
all that makes our love a crime,
Desire wanders our dream street,
To relive past memories sweet!
when I dream to meet you,tonight,
Will you dream to meet me too?

Hush, Be Quiet

Hush, be quiet you old familiar voice of negativity.
The one that is full of doubt, fault finding and self
     sabatoge.
There is no mercy, no kindness or love in you, only
     dislike and distrust.
Complete silence of the mind is much better than your noise.
But sometimes the future unknown, is more fearful
   than the known misery.
However just when the loud voice of poison vents
    to almost drown out any future hope, it happens.
A flicker of light, from small twigs of long ago
   embers restores memories of a different voice.
A voice not beat up by accounts of life's failures,
  loses, disappointments  and deaths.
It holds out tender love, forgiveness and a balanced
   reality in learning to express a new voice.
This voice will nurtue the one carrying it and
   those it meets on the journey of life .

What If

If a barber passes a bald guy on the street There's a look of distain on his face Sees him walking totally upright on two feet But clearly not of the human race If a doctor passes an athlete on a track There is instant contempt in his eyes This dude is putting his practice in jeopardy What if we were all as fit as this guy A shoe salesman meets a guy in the park Wearing battered beat up old runners The salesman has instant dislike for this loser This down and out no good bummer If a broker watches a guy blowing his dough On a big pile of electronic stuff Which in six months time will be out of date The money guy cringes and huffs If a starlet is making an extremely big splash Stars who've been around for years Will try to discredit this shining new star Hoping to send her packing in tears © Jack Ellison 2013

Hymn To Love 2

(Dedication: For my wife Ann)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here by my side
Beauty frames grace,
Love wears no pride
In your bright face.
You are my joy
In space and time,
Touch bears no ploy
As esteem chimes.
In sun and moon
Your radiance peaks,
In love's high noon
Two hearts now speak.
As echoes breeze
Good cheer provokes,
Watch lovers squeeze
What touch evokes.
A hymn to love
Can say much more,
Touch spans above
Brief time that shores.
Here in a trance
Where dream comes true,
Fate mellows dance
For me and you.
Brief is our play
As souls find wing,
Peace of mind stays
As love funds fling.
Come let us greet
The dawn of grace,
Where new light meets
Our time and space.
Old souls wing here
To harvest feel,
Glimpse touch of cheer
As zeal now heals.
A Life
a life
When a spawn meets an egg, it is totally by chance the egg, and the spawn has no say in
the matter, in time life, is born, the new
Life's only duty is to produce another life.
The between beginning and the end is what we call living.
Some live long, others live short, and this is purely by good luck
A shivering August butterfly on the window sill When taken indoors flapped tired wings and lived a few days longer.
Many old human butterflies live in rest homes where they get fed
and medicated to live a few more years.
They are prayed upon by nuns and priests who tell them about Jesus, the most famous butterfly collector of them all
If they believe in him, they will go to heaven and be saved
A holy person will stick a needle in them and put them in a big book
and forever, they will be beautiful.
For non-believers, there is no rosy future
They will die on the ledge
turn into dust and washed away by the rain.
Chinatown
Old roads paved once again,
New patchwork paint meets rain,
New trace of ancient strains.
Old buildings in new bloom,
Urban landscape frames boom,
Old hues in modern gloom.
New patterns in old style,
So many facelifts pile,
Juxtapose such odd smiles.
New ways to use old times,
Ventures of some sort chime,
Money makes odd stuff rhyme.
Commerce and business lift,
Come buy for that Free Gift,
New faces tout in brief sift.
Old Chinatown can farm,
Vistas of ancient palms,
Mix and mingle new charms.
Hear the rustic roar speak,
Commotion piques new peaks,
Watch a new moments leak.
Old wares and new cares ply,
Side by side in odd cry,
Random poise frames new sighs.
Come by and take a look,
All sorts of stuff can hook,
New waves in strange new brooks.
See such quaint old arrays,
Modern dish of odd replay,
Urban facelift now strays.
1957- My Beginning
Wham-o’s old Pluto Platter,
gets a brand-new name.
Fred and Ethel say farewell,
Dick Clarke gets his fame.
The Cat in the Hat is born,
Bogie has moved on.
Hurricane Audrey rages,
while Paul meets with John.
Sputnik said that space is now,
the brand new frontier.
Russia’s I. C. B. M makes,
their intentions clear.
Four hundred officials killed,
by Vietcong hands.
Elvis starts his life behind,
the walls of Graceland.
Seventy thousand more lives,
lost to Asian flu.
We were losing the space race,
as Vanguard dies too.
In Arkansas the guard blocks,
the Little Rock Nine.
Eisenhower sends his troops,
to settle the times.
McGovern points a finger,
says they're Commie Reds.
Soviets test the H Bomb,
brings ultimate dread.
Laika makes it into space,
U.S. is grounded.
Great Britain test their bomb and,
alarms are sounded.
Great innovations in births,
and technology.
Electric watch, Edsel,
Jayne Torvill and me.
Eve of a New Year
EVE OF A NEW YEAR
Last day of the old year,
Going away with tears;
Old journal book closing,
Loose spiral sheets inking.
One last look at fond times,
Old year in final chimes;
Gratitude comes to mind,
Thank You for moments kind.
Here on the verge of change,
Heart and mind feel soul strange;
Sad emotive refrains,
Recall pleasure and pain.
Just like last year’s echoes,
Sift through my highs and lows;
My soul speaks deep profound,
Prize love upon these grounds.
On New Year’s Eve I pray,
May grace light me each day;
May love show wise beauty,
May truth spread harmony.
As the old year departs,
May grand blessings now start;
As the new year arrives,
May love ever revive.
So here we welcome peace,
As joy and hope greet ease:
Our human poise meets choice,
May our acts sync with voice.
Here’s wishing one and all:
Fond blessings you recall,
A new year of wonder,
Wherever you wander.
