A Tribute to Vickie

A Kentucky woman born and raised,
Country through and through.
And though you left your roots behind,
Kentucky never let go of you.

A red-haired spit-fire in your younger days,
Life of the party, you lived for fun.
Country music and dancin', a little romancin',
After the setting of the sun.

You were vivacious and sassy,
A splash of bright in the midst of gray.
Hard-headed, stubborn, flirtatiously fun,
Never at a loss for something to say.

And then without warning anxiety attacked,
Clipped your wings and imprisoned you.
A relentless foe who wouldn't let go,
Took over the life you once knew.

Love for Jesus and family kept you going,
With your little dog Diva by your side.
You reached out to befriend the lonely,
A smile and kind word you'd provide.

Southern gospel music became your anchor,
In the overwhelming storms of life,
Blasting the message of God's love,
To all who happened to pass by.

For eighty-four years you walked this earth,
You partied, you loved, laughed and cried,
Shopped 'til you dropped, you lived your life,
And now with Jesus you will abide.

No more anxiety, no more pain,
No more sorrow or tears to cry.
Your Savior has set you free from all these,
And your spirit now can fly!
