Raining in Summer-Symphonic Summer Rain
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I close my eyes
with the sound of rain,
it splatters in puddles,
on the rain gutter,
sharp patter on metal,
dull sound on concrete,
softly drumming oleander leaves.
Rat-at-tat-rat-a-tat-tat-tat. Ping!
Triangles ring on the fireplace flu
Ping! Rat-a-tat-tat-tat. Ping!
Summer rain collects,
cascading from the tile roof
like a gushing river,
thudding on a wet blanket
hanging on the clothesline,
cars drive by,
tires swooshing through water
starting to sound
like a symphony,
'da DUM, da DUM, da DUM'
a clear drumbeat in iamb.
ta ta TAH, ta ta TAH,
the cymbals ring
in anapestic rhythm,
thunder of large
base drums intervene
breaking the temporary tenor,
then back to gentle reverie.
With all the graduating
melodies between,
wind's breath
transitions the routine,
making a gale-like sweep,
then a refrain back
to variations
and main theme,
sounds of summer symphonic rain.
