Into the Sanctity of Mount Everest
the clatter of daily life
rings like a Claxton
summonsing us to action
for fruitless activity
hoarding of useless assets
for the eventualities in our lives
that would never come to pass
closing the lid on my worldly coffin is
the ultimate withdrawal from this maddening crowd
gasping for breath like a climber who summits
by dint of misplaced courage I have challenged the spirit of Chomolungma
what would have happened if I’d taken time out to appreciate solitude
and the wise one said nothing
