I Am Leaving

Nobody lives in that house anymore
It was built to ridicule the poor
Nobody lives in that house anymore
They must have gone beyond the shore
The operator is no longer around
Greed has driven him out of the miserable town
And everyone is dilly dallying around
I came to this street a few days ago
And the lights are growing old and dim
Not a moon in the sky
Not one star standing by
The gates are locked
The place is quiet
The cloud is still
And the New Year is rapping on my window sill
The overcast sky buried the moon in the dark
Massive construction
Rapid development
Luxury cars rolling up and down on the other side of town
While spring dances with the pretty girls
And holding something precious and dear
Life is perhaps at its best, now I will put everyone to test
I have been the underdog for too long
It’s time to rise up and show the other hand
We can get the deal done without a request
Now I am wearing my Sunday best
Do you think you can predict my destiny
Life has a way to live its own truth
Everyone is making assumptions about me
Do they really know about the power of nature?
The birds are singing the children are giggling
And the wind is blowing warm air far and near
Here I am sitting on the this ridiculous wall
Every time I come here someone is waiting for a brawl
But this time I am chewing sweet sugarcane and watching the cars
going around the bend
my eyes are wide open and my fist is clenched by my side
I think I can make some people happy
But I cannot make everyone happy
Sometimes we have to disagree to agree
I can remember the days when I was a little girl
I used to roam about the farm
and have cane juice for breakfast
Orange for lunch and tangerine for dinner
I fed on fruits, and when you miss me
You didn’t have to look far
Just look into the orange tree
There I was sitting, looking at my destiny
It was just like yesterday, my age has grown
But my body still remains the same way
The buildings are standing tall waiting for a celestial call
While the merchants are standing by listening to the widows cry
You know that I am leaving so why are you complaining
Nothing you do will make me change my mind
We have to come to the best compromise
I have the handle and you have the blade
Let us not start a fight
you know what I want
And I know what you want
so why did you ridicule me at supper
when I asked you to make an offer?
You laughed at me with your friends
and whisper about me around the bend
I do not care what you all do
As long as it’s strictly business between me and you
You are right I am leaving so why should I make an offer
But if you don’t I will make it for you
And when I do I will sell it back to you
Do you want me to give you everything for free?
And have you laughing ridiculously at me
Never play this game with me again
Or I will bring you down to the very end
Friends don’t humiliate friends
Call it what you may business, relationship or friend
But never laugh at me again
Or you will pay a ruthless price for just a silly sacrifice.
Every plane has a tracking device
And every door has an entrance and exit
The lock smith has a key for every stubborn lock
And the speech maker has a melting word for every ruthless deal maker
Call it what you may but I am ready to roll up my sleeve
And stand up to this fight to do what I know is right
I am leaving and nothing or no one will change my mind.
It’s not all about money
It's about my sovereignty,
Reclaiming my independence
And not having anyone telling me when to go to bed.
where to shop or who to trade with
I want to make my own rules for my children
I have echoed this over and over again
And each time you make a story to cast fear and doubt in the air
I know what I am about and I will keep reiterate it until I am out
I am leaving so get out of my way
And stop playing me for a fool!
