Spring Sonata Poetry Contest--Snapshots of Spring
“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” Quote by Rainer Maria Rilke
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Medusa cactus
in large blue ceramic pot
blooms a burst of sunshine
over her green appendages.
A sparrow narrowly escapes
from calico cat’s paws.
Hearts flutter
as rose petals fall
with gentle rain from pink skies.
Two circling falcons above call
like halcyons’ riding high winds
in the sun’s fiery reflections.
Shimmering waters below
reflect white clouds above.
Sunlight trickles
between pink cherry blossoms,
lapis lazuli glimmers through.
Pastel spring colors
burst forth in wildflowers
across distant hills,
colors of rainbows.
A duck family swimming together
squabble like old men,
then, quickly agree.
Crows dot branches
where they rest in green sprouting trees
like giant bumble bees.
Mockingbirds fly where
colorful kites float on winds.
Newly hatched butterflies ascend
to meet them.
White florets crown an apple tree,
pink hues kissing each branch
as jeweled hummingbirds attend.
