The Space Shuttles

Sculptured metal with a polished sheen, and oxygen tanks hissing like steam. Space shuttles were powerful machines, where liquid fuel took cold to extremes. A rival sun burnt a blazing path as engines ignited flames of wrath. And plumes of fire flashed final goodbyes, launching shuttles high into the skies. Man's hopes and dreams were their first payload as they rocketed to God's abode. And rolling on their backs to gain speed, they'd jettison their tanks and feel freed. Now untethered from their earthly base, they explored the edge of outer-space. And when gravity pulled shuttles home, reentry's heat was absorbed by foam. With their stubby wings floating on air, they'd touch down, screeching in despair. To help give America a boost, they got piggybacked back to their roost. (Rhyme) 10/3/2017
