A Time To Reflect

Expression Poetry Contest Sponsor-Silent One Written 4/15/24 A Time To Reflect As my last sunset nears I look back at the sunrise And dwell on the past I order another beer And stare at the nostalgia The faded painting on the wall That's now lost its color And slumps I see myself and the look in my eyes And the lost twinkle I keep twirling the quarter in front of me And my thoughts The manly friends That I have shared a beer with And occasional romance Having long past Those were the good old days We had many stories to tell And kept up with each other's chapters And mostly of each other's gossip and routines Together we watched the Super Bowls and World Series And who can forget the first man on the moon telecast? We watched, cheered, and shared The seasons and seasonings Salted long ago And were riveted at times when our stars collided As this bar became the lighthouse to my ship Where the company added more than the thirst for beer Now there are many empty seats of young kids Preoccupied with themselves and their phones So indifferent to my time As the bartender wakes me from my thoughts I stop twirling the quarter Politely he asks, ma'am would you like another beer My fingers stop a tear in my eye Politely I say I'm leaving this dwelling
