Across the Street

Never lonely, now these days
I walk on city streets
amongst the mass of souls arrayed
on these city streets
But eyes glare down and blankly past
on cold city streets
Human connections fight to pass
your smile on city streets
A million around, but isolated now
dejected on city streets

The pond we knew constricted view
on smaller, quiet streets
The judging smiles and waves adieu
all fake on quieter streets
They stop and look at your lifes open book
on nosier quiet streets
No minding their medling or toll it took
on intrusive quiet streets.

So I stroll now knowing
green is on neither side-
   but within an unattainable middle...
