Pride of Starlight

Written in Free Verse

There's a star with my name written on it
I wrote it, so that's how I know
Came to me in a dream one starry night
Instant star of night I become.

In filigree lace I adorned myself
Placed a tiara on my head
Then made up my face like a beauty queen
And sprayed silver sheen on my hair.

Ready for action I soared into space
Leaving contrails above earth
You'd never believe the journey I had
Met the moon man, though sad he seemed.

Said he had no beams, that they'd wandered off
I said try borrowing from sun
Next, angels said there's no reason to hark
And only had harps without strings.

I reached my star, on it my name I wrote
Though tough as the star was aflame
The journey back home was not all that bad
Though I landed down with a smack.

Then I woke up, glad to still be alive
That my name was now on a star
Anyone can do it, nothing to it
Make your mind up, follow your dream.

                     * * *

Rewritten in Swap Quatrain

There's a star with my name on it
I know for ‘twas I wrote upon it
In a dream I flew high and far
With my name on it, there’s a star.

I was dressed in filigree lace
A sparkly tiara in place
Never felt so good or blessed
In filigree lace, I was dressed.

Rapid I rose up high in sky
Alike a bird, found I could fly
Passed by the moon, how his face glows
Up high in sky, rapid I rose.

When I reached sun, much later on
So very hot, soon I was gone
Sun said we could’ve had fun
Much later on, when I reached sun.

I reached my star, it wears my name
My one and only claim to fame
See my name wherever you are
It wears my name, I reached my star.

When I awoke I felt great pride
And a joy that I could not hide
In gold are the letters that I wrote
I felt great pride, when I awoke.
