If only you knew

How my heart breaks, when I think of the ways…
I might have given something more,
A smile, a thought, an embrace,
Reassurance or encouragement,
My presence instead of just complaint.

How my spirit weeps, when I consider the past…
All its fears and tears, the years
Before I realized at last,
Joy and peace and love,
Are the gifts from God and His Son,
The One who silenced the cries,
From a spirit who longs to satisfy.

How my soul moans, when I consider what’s been lost…
I linger in the sadness, the pain,
Wishing for a second chance,
Feeling those trembling doubts,
Shadows that feed on my despair,
Rejecting the music of grace,
Remembering that love gentles the ache.

If you only knew…
The struggles, the pain, I’ve been through….
I doubt you would judge me so harshly.
If you might see past the darkness to the heart of me,
Where there lives a yearning soul, someone who knows…
Whatever comes, in this life, … there is hope,
There is a light shining on, despite the darkest night…

If you only knew…
The light of the Son.
You’d see that it is love who has won.
Yes, love won… because He can’t be outdone.
He is the One who brings light to the world,
Hope to the soul and assurance to the wounded.

If you only knew…
In my heart, there is One,
Who shines hope from the soul,
Who sings faith that stirs love,
Who reminds us that His light…
Abides throughout all time… His light
Reflects the wonder of God’s Son,
Reminds hearts of what He’s done.

If you only knew…
This love, this grace, this faith…
He is God’s Son and He has only just begun!
