Going Back

I have another intriguing tale from the seventies
My dogs and I were parked up in Colston park
a favourite place of mine to stop and do some DX-ing
I put up an ariel hoping to catch some long distant calls

We went often its quite close by and lots of good distant
were on the air that night, then suddenly both my dogs sat up,
they were growling deep in their throats and seem fixated
on one spot I ducked down my head as the most foul smell
invaded the car gaseous and an unholy smell off rotting flesh
nothing was going to get me outside, not until daylight.

Eventually The stench departed but still I kept my head down
my dogs gradually settled down I kept my head by chatting
to the other DX-ers and so infinitely slowly day finally appeared
I let my dogs out, they both went to the same place sniffed around.

I took down my ariel got the dogs in the car and headed for home
I think I escaped from the Headless Horse man who is said to ride the Quantocks from Colston to Quantock Head and back I never went there again
At night I put a lot of faith in my dogs. They sure were upset that night
