Drilled Stilled Steady

The click and the lock.
The cuddle up to the scope.
The power of the thought that now I can kill a man.

The test on my soul.
The barrel facing home.
The knowledge that death is in my hands.

The rifle is ready.
I hold drilled, stilled steady.
A movement now ends a life.

The crack in my soul.
The bullet let go.
The silhouette now hits the ground.

The dark of this night just got darker tonight.
The smoke rises slow.
My mind takes control.
Nature lets me go.
I’ve just killed a soldier, I’ve just ended the life of a man.
