Never Downriver

Never Downriver

My mind is in a “shiver”.
Thoughts are going here and thither.
My soul now starts to wither.
I can feel the serpent slither.
But I shall never dither
When it comes to my soul’s wither
I will shout, “Dear Lord, come hither.”
Let the angels play their zither.
I was baptized in a river
I could feel the spirit quiver.
When God above gave me a sliver
of the Love Christ did deliver.
I shall never go downriver
Where the serpents slide and slither.
I shall instead follow, “The Giver.”
Doing His will with loving vigor.
