ANOTHER YORKSHIRE FORGER

Twas back in the eighteen sixties
When Shaw began to fake
And produce silver forgeries,
A fortune so to make.

He set up making English coins
From cheap alloy of tin.
Half-crowns, shillings, mostly florins.
And none with silver in.

His wife would daily go shopping;
With fake coins she would pay.
But some people start suspecting
And to police they say.

Constables then search through Shaw’s place.
Some forging tools they see
And some fake coins in his work space
But where could others be?

They search the woods in dark confines
And fake coins they unearth.
Some florins and a few half-crowns
And none of them of worth.

Shaw’s sent to prison by the court
But his wife remains free.
She’s seven children to support
So at home she must be.
