SMOKE ON THE WATER

SMOKE ON THE WATER

Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention
Played at their Montreux Casino gig one night
But down in the audience, a flare gun was fired
Still nobody really knows how it was acquired
That eventually had set the whole building alight
The place soon emptied without much dissention

In a hotel nearby, Deep Purple were gazing out
Seeing both the flames and smoke on the water
Hence the source of inspiration for their song
That became their famous hit before too long
Roger Glover, the group’s bassist and reporter
Of the biggest fire he’d seen, he had no doubt

With smoke on the water, and fire in the sky
Those song lyrics could make a blind man cry
