has Summer
gone?
The world
has lost
Summer
Sweet
little
dream
missing
all those other
beautiful
small dreams
seen as toys
small and
inconsequential
casually tossed aside,
disposable play,
things
pure shining lights
smiling eyes once so bright,
switched off,
'neath
smothering
blankets of frost
no tinkling remnants
of mischievous giggles,
nor echo of laughter
cuddling puppy dogs,
sugar ‘n spice and
everything nice
Gone is Christmas
no more waiting
for Santa
he's missing
they're missing
here ever after
something
is very wrong
in the song
Summer
and so many
other Seasons
missing,
lost,
gone
truth
of what
is to come
makes us hang
our hearts,
our heads low
because we
suspect what
we chose to ignore
that which whispered
in our minds, that,
which we feared all along
it's something
not normal, nor pretty,
but we chose to avoid
the flat off-keys
in that back-of-the mind
well known, perpetually sung
ancient song
what have we
in this world
now become?
this old yet new
hidden terror
breaks us
makes us
question
all the innocence gone
Do we gather
in closer
with the stark truth of it?
Call all our
beautiful children
safe home;
Life is big
dancing barefoot
in the rain
fairy spirit
singing her little
large life song
danced around
a red drum, the
"For Sale" sign, says it all
TikTok
displays insidiously,
"Sold"
by the guilty
and ignorant
a story untold
begins
to unravel
unfold
bad love
buried deep
in the wounds of a child
bad love
inhuman
and cold
There is something
so terribly wrong
with our world
Where has Summer gone?
A secret bed beneath
a pine tree in the
Bad Love Woods
Autumn’s ghost approaches
and warns
Winter's snow will not grace
It will hide
every bit of once was
Summer’s trace
the white fox hides
his face, demons watch on
they feel no shame, no disgrace
footprints
disappear
all the birdsong's dead
long gone
a distant place
essence of a child stored away
Still is Summer
Summer is still
long gone, months away
in our heads
truth
is calling
haunting
the air electric
ghost singing
tears glistening
walks a path home
towards the frightened
mother, the father
They hear it
chasing and calling
their souls
They are listening
The sign
on the red drum
read "for sale"
they have all been sold
in those good ol' boy
Tennessee Hills
They danced
with It
they now must all
put on
It's redrum shoes,
no sleep for the lies
burning inside
while they sing It's old song
All the world
waking
too slowly
dancing barefoot
in the rain
ephemeral
red drum photos
down trodden
and hillbilly beat
the sale sign
reads "sold"
too late to retreat
The world
is lost
all is too late
we prefer
our dreams
clean, neat and sweet
turn our heads
the other cheek
life is not that dirty
we walk past
and through
all those tawdry
lower vibrations
we
at least
are complete
ignoring
them
and our own
deep buried
hidden
secrets
they
are just
bad dreams
sandwich medicine
smaller things
shining lights
snuffed out
we look for
spirit voices to
prophecy
something mystical
heard and seen
in the clouds and the winds
underneath a legion of
beating angel wings
saved by baptismal hymns
raptures and
resurrections
waiting
for a holy drummer
yet, we turn a blind eye
to the unsavoury
and the all too
unwanted
we are adapt at
avoiding the unbelievable
confronting questions
yet some of us
scream to our
Blue Sky
Where has Summer gone?
Why?
"The world has lost Summer,"
it answers.

are broken
we cry.
